ac3 to mp2 problem

i've tried converting an ac3 to a mp2 but when its finished the file is 155mb but the video is only about 400mb i think. from what i've read on these forums 155mb seems a little too big. also when i play the mp2 in wmp it says the file is 2hrs 16 mins long, even though the movie is only 1hr 44mins long. it seems to skip like buggery also.

can anyone help at all??

cheers

How did you extract this ac3 ?
Which tool did you use to encode ?

almightythermos 07-19-2004 05:28 PM

i used virtualdubmod and demuxed the ac3 file

Dialhot 07-19-2004 05:45 PM

Strange. And if you play directly the ac3, what time is shown ?
(sometimes it is not possible to play ac3 files alone because they need a different codec than the one used for playing ac3 within a movie, so don't bother if you can't play it).

almightythermos 07-19-2004 05:56 PM

i just played the ac3 file and it is fine...1hr 44mins

Dialhot 07-19-2004 05:59 PM

I realise taht you don't tell what is the tool used for doing the ac3 -> mp2 process ! It must be the "guilty". So, what it is ?

Note: thinks about usign ac3fix also on the ac3 file before to convert it.

almightythermos 07-19-2004 06:06 PM

i'm using headac3he and following the advice you gave to somebody on another topic.

Dialhot 07-19-2004 06:10 PM

:imstupid: We are in the headac3che forum :-)

I never use headac3che but it gives trouble on lot a fiels. Generally that is solve by using ac3fix before to encode into mp2.

But you should try besweet also.

almightythermos 07-19-2004 06:12 PM

ok thanks, i will try besweet and let you know what happens
i'm running ac3fix now

almightythermos 07-19-2004 06:32 PM

ok, i'm trying to use besweet but when i hit go i just get a blank notepad screen, am i missing a file or something? 8O :?:

Dialhot 07-19-2004 06:41 PM

the notepad screen is to display the log file. Here it seems that nothing is done, so the log is empty :-)

You missed something OR your source is REALLY corrupted. Are you sure it a an ac3 ?

(copy the command line used by besweet here).

almightythermos 07-19-2004 06:45 PM

well, its the file that ac3fix produced and everything indicates its an ac3
heres the info you wanted:

"D:\VCD stuff\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" -core( -input "C:\Documents and Settings\Stu\Desktop\schoolofrock.fixed.ac3" -output "C:\Documents and Settings\Stu\Desktop\schoolofrock.fixed - New - [20.07.2004] - [00.39.04].mp2" -logfilea "D:\VCD stuff\BeSweet.log" ) -azid( -c light -L -3db --maximize ) -mp2enc( -m d -b 128 -e )

hope you can come up with something, this is doing my head in now!

Dialhot 07-19-2004 07:00 PM

Please do not double post. I erased your other thread because people can't have all the info you already gave here ! :-(

I don't see anything in your line except that you should use shorter path (and file) names !

Give me the infos for the ac3 file that you can have with gspot for instance, or whatever else. I need the freq (in Khz) and the bitrates (en Kbit/s) the filesize (in MB).

But I'm definitely sure you file is corrupted.
(note : how big is the fixed file compared to the original one ?).

almightythermos 07-19-2004 07:06 PM

ok, both original and fixed are 335mb

frequency = 48khz
bitrate = 448 kb/s (6 ch) CBR

thanks for your time mate :)

Dialhot 07-19-2004 07:20 PM

unfortunally there is nothing wrong in any of all these numbers; Just the "2h16" reported after encoding with headache is wrong (but you already know that ;-)).

As this source turns mad the two programs, it can't be anything but corrupted.

Just try shorter names (any work on KVCD should be in "c:\kvcd" and nothing longer !) as last chance.

almightythermos 07-19-2004 07:37 PM

we have lift off! besweet is transcoding as i type this. :D i started again on besweet but didn't use the wizard and found out that the azid.dll i had was too old (was 1.8) so i got azid.dll v1.9 and everything seems hunky dory so far. i'll let you know if the end result is good or not.

cheers for your help btw... i hope my team tottenham hotspur gets as much help from a frenchman :D :D :D

merci

almightythermos 07-19-2004 07:50 PM

success!!! the mp2 file is now 1hr 44mins long but still a bit big..167mb
i'll now try to mux it in tmpgenc :)

almightythermos 07-19-2004 07:59 PM

sh1t!!! no success!! all was going well until a couple of minutes into the muxing when tmpgenc says the audio is an invalid mpeg audio stream! if that is the case why does it mux some of it? the 3 minutes it does mux is totally perfect picture and sound! do you know why this is?? please???

Dialhot 07-20-2004 03:24 AM

For the size matter : what is the bitrate you used ??? You know you can change it ? ;-)

The muxing problem : never had nor seen that anywhere. You are realling unlucky !

almightythermos 07-20-2004 04:52 PM

sorted it phil mate! the bitrate was still on 48khz which of course is no good for vcd so i changed that to 44.1khz and everything is cool, i now have a perfect kvcd at 647mb. :D
picture and sound are superb quality :)

thanks again mate
