I have some movies encoded with AC3, and would like to mantain the 5.1 channels in my KVCD. Especially for movies such as Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and Pink Floyd the Wall. These movies are esentially based on a very good audio quality.

I have read somewhere that I should encode the AC3 into a mp2 with Headac3he using prologic or something like that.
Perhaps there is some other program. I have also noticed that BBMPeg supports AC3 as audio source. Does it work fine?

Could someone enlighten me on this issue.

Some screenshots of Headac3he option will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

AC3 won't work on any VCD(SVCD)

Kwag, I checked the guide and found that either Headac3he and BeSweet can be used to do the mp2 encoding from AC3 files.

Which of the two would you reccomend?

Thanks

Use HeadAC3he and use the option 'Surround2' -- this will encode using Dolby Prologic-II.. this will be Prologic1 or 2 compatible.. if you use a receiver than can handle DPL2 decoding, you'll have five-channel seperation (center/left front/right front/left rear/right rear) instead of just c/lf/rf/rear like in DPL1.

If you input a 5.1 channel AC3, HeadAC3he should choose Surround2 automatically.

This is why I like this forum so much. Too many people helping each other.

I will never equal your knowledge, but at this pace I am getting quite confident in making KVCDs with the best possible quality.

If knowledge occupies room in my head, and if the room is limited, soon I will have to drop away banal knowledge such as how to walk or ride a bicicle.

Thank you a lot.

Hi there,
I have been using HeadAC3he since it was first introduced by Kwag, and I have been using "2ch" since then.

I am wondering should I select "6ch" in order to have the best result (like gonzopdx said "this will encode using Dolby Prologic-II.. this will be Prologic1 or 2 compatible.. if you use a receiver than can handle DPL2 decoding, you'll have five-channel seperation (center/left front/right front/left rear/right rear) instead of just c/lf/rf/rear like in DPL1."). I forgot to mention that I will be using in DVD-/+R (KDVD).

If I were making a DVD you can bet I'd be using AC3 audio, not MP2 .

When I try to convert AC3 --> MP2 with the 6 Ch Surround 2 option it says that the MP2 format does not handle multiple channels. So if I have to encode it as a 2 Ch Surround 2, are you trying to say that a Pro Logic II receiver will make it sound like Dolby Digital 5.1?

BTW, my receiver is a Pioneer VSX-D557. How do I know if it support Pro Logic II? (It's from like 199

It's probably Prologic. Not Prologic II

Not exactly the same, but very close. I had a hard time telling the difference between the AC3 and MP2 versions of the Signs audio, for example, but could more easily differentiate with LOTR FOTR, probably because it's a lot more demanding.

This page mentions Pro Logic but not Pro Logic II. From what I can gather Pro Logic II was introduced in 2000, so my guess is that it doesn't .
