44khz vs 48khz

I just listened to the difference 8O. I've been meaning to do a comparison for ages -- now let's hope my standalone can do 48khz audio with MPEG-1... :D

yes, better quality and size increase just a little!

It works fine! 8O

48KHz audio works fine on my player (Pioneer DV-343) as well. It's quite logical as that's the DVD specs :?:

@jorel: The filesize won't change because the bitrate will still be the same.

I've played my KVCDs (quite a lot) with 48kH audio on 5 different players and the all worked fine. Just one player (Universum) wasn't able to play
SVCD with 48kH (worked with SVCD/44.1 kH and VCD/48KH)

regards, ***mfb***

I can only play 48Khz sound on 3 of my 5 players
So I guess I have to stick to 44.1Khz

Don't forget to take a huge pile of different KVCDs with you to the store so you can test the players :P I know I'll have a hard time choosing a new player if my current one breaks down some day..

Actually you won't 8) . I know some folks at a large local video outlet store, and they have KVCD demos on just about every DVD player on the store 8O. Playing on 46" Panasonic Plasma display to small "Wega" Tv's, they're showing KVCD cuts, and people think they are seeing DVDs . It's amazing how most new models play just about any format. Maybe manufacturers are "spying" on us :buzzmile:

Damn right they should  As I'm open to experimenting anything with digital video, I definitely want to have a player that will play anything I feed into it.

This might have something to do with the fact that some manufacturers use PC hardware in their players. I know some folks that have even replaced their standalone player drive with a PC DVD-ROM drive because the PC one was very quiet 8O These are usually the ones that are not a well-known brand and are sold really cheap. This is definitely not a bad thing..I have a friend whose Thomson standalone player won't sometimes even play standard compliant VCDs! I told him to drop by a local department store, buy the cheapest player they have and see how that works.

if you can get your hands on one, try out a panasonic rp82 or xp50. they both have the sage/faroudja deinterlacer chip and the panasonic mpeg decoder chip. i just got my RP82 and the picture is great, and it also plays just about any format from what i've heard and i know for a fact if plays KVCDx3 because i've done it.
