audio sync problems

I'm having some audio sync problems with an XViD file with MP3 audio. My audio sounds like it's the right tone, the picture looks like it's the right speed rate, but the audio comes maybe a second before the video. I used GSpot to confirm what codecs are used for video/audio and it says I have a MPEG Layer-3 Decoder-->Morgan Stream Switcher for MP3 audio. Then I extracted the MP3 using VirtualDub, direct stream copy. If I use HeadAC3he to convert MP3 --> MP2, I get an error message "Read less bytes than expected" about 1/3 way through. So I used BeSweet to convert MP3 --> WAV, also setting it to downsample 48000 --> 44000 to suit my DVD player. Then I can convert the WAV --> MP2 in HeadAC3he, 128 kbps.

When I encode the XViD --> MPEG in TMPGEnc, I follow the Black Night guide to the tee. Here's my AVISynth file:

Code:

LoadPlugin("d:\program files\avisynth2\plugins\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("d:\program files\avisynth2\plugins\LegalClip.dll")
LoadPlugin("d:\program files\avisynth2\plugins\Blockbuster.dll")
LoadPlugin("d:\program files\avisynth2\plugins\FluxSmooth.dll")
LoadPlugin("d:\program files\avisynth2\plugins\Sampler.dll")
LoadPlugin("d:\program files\avisynth2\plugins\GripFit_Preview.dll")
avisource("E:\Movies\Sweet.Home.Albama.DVDRip.XViD-ViTE\sha-xvid.avi", false)
LegalClip()
GripCrop(528, 480, overscan=1)
GripSize()
FluxSmooth()
LegalClip()
#Sampler(length=24)

I'm using the KVCD x3 template at a CQ of 71 in order for the movie to fit on one CD. Finally a mux in BBMPEG and burn with Nero.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Oh and there is no sync problem with the original AVI file.

Is the time the same of the video (m1v) and audio (mp2) files? If not, you need to do a "time warp" with Goldwave or another audio edit proggy. You can also add a second of delay to the beginning of the audio if it is consistently out of sync by one second throughout.

I use to have the exact same problem with an AVI File... I finally gave up, because when I added a second or so in the beginning, so that the sound would sync the video, at the end it was out of sync again... :cry:
how does that Time Warping work, and how do I do it with GoldWave ?

Interesting, they are not the same. According to VirtualDub, the M1V file is 1:48:51 and according to HeadAChe, the MP2 is 1:48:36. I think the problem is that when I open up the origanal XViD file in VirtualDub, it complainst hat the audio is a VBR audio stream. It says it will rewrite the audio header but it may introduce 31910 ms of skew from the video stream. It suggest to extract the entire audio stream as an uncompressed WAV file, but when I try to do that "The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format."

Any ideas?

I think I've tried almost everything here. First thing I tried was extracting the audio with the VirtualDub-MP3-Freeze program, and after converting and muxing that I still had sync problems. Then I used the same VDub to scan for freezes/errors, and it found none. Then I tried using Goldwave to extract the audio track and save it as a wave file, still had sync problems. Lastly I used Goldwave to extract the audio, then did a Time Warp to match the M1V length, and HeadAC3he to convert WAV --> MP2. Still had sync problems!

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do? Thanks.

Okay I just checked and at the beginning of the film the audio is early by a full second or two but it slowly gets more in sync by the end of the film.

try to put 1 or 2 seconds of silence in the beginning
with sound forge(for me is the best)
in your wav or mp3 than save it and test. :wink:
