recording PALTALK streaming audio
I need to record something from a PALTALK chatroom, but I don't have any idea how to do this  I don't know what format the audio is in and I couldn't find anything in the PalTalk program or their website. I have a soundblaster LIVE soundcard (in case that info helps). I'd really like to figure out how to do this by 6:00 PM (pacific) today if possible :D
thanks! ren |

Can't really go wrong with TotalRecorder.
If you have installed the soundblaster software, look in the settings for a mode called record "What You Hear", my SBLive has this feature once the software, not just the drivers, were installed. Never tried it though. ztr |
TotalRecorder worked but what was recorded is nothing like what I heard  8O 8O   It sounds like high pitched squealling (like it sampled the sounds of the computer hardware or something)
this is what the wave looks like: http://www.digitalfaq.com/archives/error.gif I tried to fix it with Goldwave but I didn't see anything that would work. Could Cool Edit pro fix this maybe :?: thanks, ren |
It looks like the signal level was way too high 8O
You could use that one as an alarm clock sound for your PC  |
hi renalunit..
yes, do use the SoundRecord app from your SB Live card. I got MANY good sounds from it - believe me !! The sound that you hear from your speakers are re-directed back into your SB Live card (or something like that) So you should have a DUP of your sound source - - an equivalent of WYSIWYG (or WYHIWYP) ..what-u-H-is-what-u-PLAY As el_mero_zooter said, set your SoundRecorder app to the setting "what you hear" and you have a DUP of what you heard in an WAV file format. I've done MANY Accoustic Guitar recording from this route, and believe me, even though I use a $4 strap-on MIC, the sound was perfect, AND top that off with some of SB Live's present, ie, Hall; Orchest; ect. and my Guitar sounded like it mastered by a pro - - and believe me, I SUCKed BIG TIME !! -vhelp |
hi vhelp,
TotalRecorder worked pretty well- I think the problem was a particular setting I had in PalTalk- half-duplex (if sound cuts out) I have no idea what this setting does. Can anyone verify for me that PalTalk does not have some sort of encryption to prevent people from recording? This is weird 8O ren |
Hi ren,
I've used TotalRecorder to record streaming mp3 files. I would say that "If you can hear it, you can record it" Go over to www.shoutcast.com and select on a station, and try to record it with TotalRecorder once you're playing a station with WinAmp ( I suggest WOLF FM. Click here: http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutc...e=filename.pls  ). If you have the same problems you had with PalTalk, then it's a problem with your settings :!: -kwag |
