First off all let me congratulate the site admin for an absolutely awesome forum and here is my welcome to this forum but i wonder if you can help with the following problem:

Basically i have converted an xvid file to dvd format mp2 m2v files using tmpgenc 2.5, i then authored it using ifo edit and created the .bup/.ifo/.vob files. I then tried to burn it using nero version 6 by choosing dvd new video and dropping all the relevant files into the video ts folder, nero starts to write the disc at 4X speed and gets to about 4% of the progress bar and then gives me an error message saying burn has failed. I have tried it on several occasions and each time i get the same error. It does however say at the top writing ifo1 and when it moves to writing the next file that is where the error comes up and that made me wonder if it is to do with the authoring that is causing the problems. I know it isn't a problem with my external usb artec vpn-pp8d24Q dvd rewriter because i have managed to convert the same xvid file using a programme called windvd creator which came with the writer but the quality was crap, hence this approach. Nero recognises my dvd writer no problems.

I used to use nero version 5.5 before but for some reason nero wouldn't recognise my external dvd rewriter and i couldn't work out a way of adding it on so i upgraded to nero 6 which was the solution suggested by nero website. Someone told me about something called nero burn kit to resolve this problem have u ever heard of that.

I know my dvd re-writer is compatiable with nero 6 as it says on there website.

Sorry for the long essay and wonder if any one can help.

You should use a tool called "Imgtool". It uses Nero API to burn (nero must be installed) but never fails

There is a light version of the tool called "imgtool classic" but I never used it. A realease was done yesterday :
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/Classic_0.91.4.zip

or go to doom9.org and follow the link till the download section.

Thanks dialhot i have looked at doom9.org and this img tool is a tool to make images and then burn the dvds. What i am after is is there any burning software that can automatically burn video ts folders without creating the image first.

Imgtool burn does, while imgtool classic makes the ifo first.

Go on doom9 site and site on the download page, you will see both imgtool burn and classic.

I think you can do that with Nero, but selecting New, Data Disk, type 2 or something like this.
I saw something like this in forum.

I have looked at doom9 high and low and i can't find a link to this tool. I would be grateful if you could post the link up for it. The link in the first post you put up is dead.

No you have to select "DVD Video" and drag all you Ifos and Vobs files into the "VIDEO_TS" directory in Nero window.

No it is NOT dead ! It is protected againt leecher (as well explained on the page when you click on the link).

That mean that you MUST log on doom9 site first, then click on the DL link from there.

The links page is this :
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm

YOu just have to scrool down to "imgtool" to find the two links (they are in the "vobs tools" section.

I foun this in Internet:
Quote:
For best compatibility, make the VIDEO_TS folder into an iso using imgtool classic.
http://coujo.crion.de/Classic_0.91.3.zip
then burn with nero normally.
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:a...+data%22&hl=es
Link that give you Dialhot is newer, but in article there is a little explanation.

thanks for all your help guys but i have still not managed to burn the dvd using nero burning rom 6 or any other burning programme, i think the problem is to do with the compatability of the drivers of my external usb artec vpn-pp8d24Q with the burning software. I have looked further into this and all the burning programmes recognise the dvd rewriter as an ATAPI dual and I wonder if that is the problem because it is an artec model manufactured by Ultima. I have tried it with image tool as well and I get the same problem burns 4% and then gives an error message saying burn failed. I have e-mailed the error log file to nero to see if they can find the problem, if any one wants me to post the error log file here to see if they can see what the problem is i will. The website for my external dvd rewtier is www.artec.com.tw/ and u need to select dvd combo from the product list and it is the black one in the picture. What i don't understand is how windvd creator 2 managed to burn the disc succesfully but that software does not let me load the vob files/image files directly in order to burn the disc, if it allowed me to do that then i would not have to use another burning program.

You should try with a tool that does not use or rely on Nero api so. CloneDVD for instance. But you will have to create an ISO image of the disc for that as clone DVD is to duplicate DVD to DVD, not to create a DVD from files.

Post the Nero log, BTW.

I don't remember if you can load directly the iso or have to use daemon (that is the name of a freeware) to emulate a virtual DVD drive on your PC where you will "mount' the iso image and use as source for DVDClone.
You will see that.

The error occurs in cdrdrv.cpp and that is probably that your burner is not supported by Nero.

!?!

That should be a bug in usb driver of windows so. You should look at microsoft website.

Note: I always considered a usb burner as a nonsense, now I understand why
