Two languages on vcd?
 

i made some cds with dvd2svcd and was very satisfied with the whole cd except with the quality (rushhour 2 on 2 cds showed blocknoise). so, now i'd like to make a kvcd which contains english and german language. how do i add the second "track"? vcdeasy or what?

You can't have selectable languages on a VCD or KVCD. Only if you encode say left channel in one language, and the right channel on another language. Then switch your balance when playing back to listen to the language you want. For SVCD, there it is defined. So you can use the SKVCD template and enjoy similar quality to a SVCD but longer playing time on each CD-R, and have your dual audio channels. But I haven't tried it, because I don't use SVCD's, so I don't know the process to do it. Check vcdhelp.com, as I have seen some tests with that. But the reports are very bad, and many SVCD players either don't play any audio, or can't switch from one channel to the other. Even that it is defined in the SVCD specifications, many manufacturers did a bad job on the implementations.

I read some articles about mulitplexing and found out some cool things:

1. two selectable languages work (i tried by multiplexing the .m1v stream and the two .mp2 streams into one mpeg-file with svcd header and burning as svcd) with kvcd

2. it works with all templates i've tried by now (1, 2, 2 plus, x3)

you have to encode the videostream as video-only and your 2 audio-streams as audio-only and then cut them into two if you need two cds (then multiplex). if you want to split the movie into two, you can't take the muxed mpg-file (because it includes only one language) but have to split the m1v and mp2 files into two. the only problem is that tmpegenc seems to "swallow up" one second of movie when saving the second part of the m1v-file with 'mpeg-tools'. if you don't correct this, the second cd will be asyncrone a second :(

the fact that the mpeg cut/merge tool doesn't copy both audio channels is quite strange, maybe the programmers have forgotten :roll:

so, does anybody know a better mpeg-cutting tool which can write svcd-header with 2 audio-tracks? if there is one, then you could simply make your m1v and mp2 files, mux them, cut the mpg file in two and burn the whole thing as 2 svcds. :P :P :P

You can do that with BBmpeg (you can find it in the tools section of Doom9.net). I thought that the videostream had to be mpeg-2 in order to have two audio streams but mpeg-1 will work with the svcd header? My players don't support svcd but they will play them if they're muxed with a vcd -non standard header.
