Basically your mpeg-1 must be 352x240(28, max frames per GOP of 15 (18 NTSC), audio must be 48Khz. Some authoring programs only accept CBR. Not sure about DVD workshop. Look at the specifications of your authoring program, and at the DVD compliant standards.

MPEG-2 is fine at 720x480, but MPEG-1 is limited to 352x240(28 on a DVD. Every DVD authoring program will allow 720x480(576) MPEG-2. But not MPEG-1 at that resolution.

Do you think i should just leave it at kdvd HALF or kdvd FULL and put as many movies as i can on a dvd-r ? The 720*480 res is not really that much better than kdvd half template and the half template encodes in about 2 hours less time .
Right now i am doing a 2 hour movie on kdvd full and the mpg is already at 3.7 gigs at 64 percent finshed. That is because i did raise the cq alittle higher

I like the half D-1. It looks very good, and fits 7-8 hours, depending on your material. Looks very good even on HDTV's
