Authoring 4.9 GB on a single DVD-R?

Hi,

I did not find any english page on this but you can try to "googlelate" this french news :

(Prodisc has announced new DVD-R stroring up to 4.9 GB. Not all burners are compatible, like before for CD-R 90 and 99 min).

Thanks for the info Phil, this sounds interesting. I was going to upgrade to a dual layer DVD burner but I might hold off now as things may change hardware wise.

I like the idea of a 4.9 Gb disc as it adds more space and the price of blanks will be of similar value hopefully as the current 4.7 Gb as DVD9 blanks tend to be more expensive at present.

Disc are made of plastic, plastic is made of petroleum, petroleum is paid in US$. That's explain why the prices in europe are going up.

Agreed Phil and that sucks. :(

I like the idea of a 4.9 GB DVD as it is a cheaper way to gain extra storage without going for a d/l burner. Hopefully the prices of these new DVD's shouldn't be to high.
