Will tmpgenc dvd authoring tool author kvcd mpeg-1 to dvd?
 

will tmpegencs new dvd authoring tool accept all the kvcd templates please i need to know this so i can author all my kvcd-generated files to a single dvd will this work i mean templates like kvcdx2,kvcdx3,kvcdlbr, kvcd@352x480

according to the specs on their website the only resolution accepted for MPEG-1 is 350x240.. bummer guys.. but it did not state that there no way to turn compliancy off.. maybe there is.. hmmmm

It accepts 1/2 D1 template output, this is of course mpeg2.

Maybe we'll be able to trick it with DVDPatcher 8)

Well, I guess I had to do it :D
I downloaded TMPGEnc DVD Author, and did some tests with the 30 day trial.
Result: It works :!:
You can author MPEG-1 and it WILL swallow it as a standard MPEG-2, BUT :!: , you have to do this which is what I did:

I encoded a 15 second sample with KVCD 704x480 PLUS, which is MPEG-1.
After I encoded the .m1v, I used the program "pulldown.exe" ( Do a search on google.com. You'll find it! )
It's a command line utility, which adds 3:2 pull down to "supposedly" MPEG-2 video streams, but it works fine with MPEG-1 too :!:
The program leaves a converted file with the name "pulldown.m2v".
That's your new video stream. Now mux that with your .mp2 audio ( Mux as DVD :!: ), and you're done :D TMPGEnc DVD Author will import that file perfectly, not to mention that it took KVCD's long GOP of 24 just fine :mrgreen:
I burned the DVD project to a DVD+RW, and I just tested it on my Panasonic RP-56 and a Sony NS-300. Played fine, and the new TMPEG menu looks cool and very easy too :)
I also tried 528x480 with the same procedure as above, but after running "pulldown.exe", I used "DVDPatcher" to patch the 528x480 resolution to 704x480. The result, TMPGEnc imported the file again as a 704x480 DVD compliant file :mrgreen:
However, the video doesn't look 100% correct in the preview window! It looks like it's not streched all the way to the right. I didn't try 544x480, and maybe that's the trick. I'll let someone else try that!. So this confirms that TMPGEnc DVD Author will accept MPEG-1 files tricked and muxed as MPEG-2 DVD program. I assume that it will also import 352x240(288) and 352x480(576) MPEG-1 just by using "pulldown.exe"
You don't need to run "pulldown.exe" if you're encoding at 29.97fps, but I do all my encodes (or all the ones I can!) at 23.976fps. This is not a DVD compliant frame rate, so you must use 3:2 pull down.

Enjoy your (higher quality/longer playing) MPEG-1 DVDs :D

Mixed results with mpeg1 dvd on my pioneer dv344, 528 x 576 25 fps source using 24 gop can be authored once patched but only plays on half of the screen, this is a limitation of my standalone, funny the same happens if it is burnt as vcd but if I burn it a s svcd it works fine ( I was hoping dvd would be the same.

This could be a hint for all :!:
If a standalone DVD player can play MPEG-1 KVCDs, most probably it wil play them on DVD :D

Just curious, after performing pulldown on a 24 fps video to make it 29 fps how do you convert the audio to 29fps

good question... This might answer my problems with DVD Workshop and Moviefactory.. I thought about using Pulldown on the files but was way too tired last night to give it a whirl... Will try once I get home from work.. hopefully all will be in sync.. :?

You don't :!:
The 3:2 pulldown is just a flag! Just like the NTSC DVDs are encoded at 24fps, and we use DVD2AVI to remove the "RFF" :)

When you used DVDPatcher did you select "entire file" or "first header only"? Also TmpgEnc told me I had corrupted data when I remuxed as SVCD. It doesn't have a DVD mux option.

TMPGEnc DVD Authoring
 

Had some success with the latetest version TMPGEnc DVD authoring tool. My only problem is that this program is looking for a 29.97 fps. When I process the VOB with DVD2AVI that only way I can get the 29.97 fps is to select the FILM (not force Film). When I try this I see a "Combing" effect in various parts of the move. How Can I get rid of these. What KVCD templates I use in Moviestacker and what script should I use as far a filtering? Bottom line is I want to get 2 or three movies on one DVD-R with a menu system and TEMPGEnc DVD will do this. Would be nice if someone could give me a sample script script to get this done. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thank You

Hi guys,
For those of you who are using TMPGEnc DVD Author, it DOES accept mpeg file muxed as Non-standard VCD, it does NOT have to be muxed as DVD. So, we can just feed the KVCD directly into TMPGEnc DVD Author without any additional procedure (provided that you video stream is either 352x240 or 352x480 or 704x480 or 720x480). After muxing your m1v and mp2 as Non-standard VCD by BBMpeg, we can either burn to CD-R or import into TMPGEnc DVD Author burning to DVD-/+R. What a wonderful world!!! :P

By the way, don't worry about the sampling rate of the audio stream, TMPGEnc DVD Author will take care of it by re-sampling from 44.1 to 48 (if you are burning to DVD). I just can't stop loving it.
