I use KDVD to generate my M2V files for TMPGEnc Author. I am interested in including the original menus, etc. I assume that one can compress each VOB set with KDVD and result in a set of VOBs that fit on a single DVD. I know that there are packages available that can even compress different parts of a DVD to fit on one DVD.

The problem is quality. With KDVD, one can retain high quality while compressing. How can one retain the desired menu items, compress the VOB sets separately and author to DVD?

Hi nicksteel,

You could try the methods descriped on ifoedit's site, where you compress your movie only, as you've already done. And then after converting your movie back to VOBs, you run DVDShrink on your directory where the movie is, and then select compression only for your menus and extras This way you will encode your main movie with KDVD and TMPEG, and all extras with DVDShrink

I think I understand. I will use DVDShrink for everything but the movie an produce a set of files. How do I merge the KDVD VOBs of the movie itself with the menus, etc from DVDShrink?

This is becoming interesting.

nick,

mostly you'd be adding the menu vob's as the "FirstPlay" clip or movie,,,
or as a Motion Menu.
What app are u gonna use to author? That will determine how to add your menu.
If you've ever used vcdEasy to create chapters and stills for your kvcd's-then it's a similar {im oversimplifying a bit} process.

If you just want to join the vobs together, and have it play then there's a few Joiners out there. I use vobjoin or FileMerger to join or split vob's.
