If I use DVDShrink and perform a full back up. I have My DVD that came with the Sony 500u burner. The question is do I burn all the files from DVDShrink as data files, or do I have to burn a different way? The files are small enough that I can include menu files and movie files for one DVD.

Hi Yoda,

You need to burn them with the DVD structure on the disk, if you want it to be playable on standalone DVD players. Unless you just want to burn as a data DVD, for backup purpose only
If you want it as a playable DVD, I suggest you use ImgTool to burn

Thanks kwag,
I guess my question should be will ImgTool keep the menus and extras? I have the full DVD under 4.38 gb and would like to make an exact copy.
Also should "reallocate VIDEO_TS structure" be checked.

Yes. What you have on the hard disk, is what you'll get on your DVD(+-)R

Kwag,

I have been using DVDShrink for a week or two now. I open a DVD and then deselect the audio and subs I do not want. I set the shrinkage for the menus, extras and movie. Then I backup to a spot on my hard drive.

I take the contents of that directory (from the DVDShrink backup) and burn it using Nero 6. I select DVD Video and drop all the files in the TS_Video directory.

I just did the 10th Anniversary version of Glengarry GlenRoss. As a side point I have to mention that the "automatic" setting on DVDShrink took the main movie down to 55% or so. I just played it and it looks Awsome! I looks better than any of the KVCDs I have ever made and almost identical to the DVD. (Granted this is not a very high action movie and it is shot in a very dark environment). I am going to test a KDVD encode of the main movie this week. I bet I can take it down to 1.5 GB without any real visible loss. (3 movies on a DVD is always better than 1).

After all that my point is... why use ImgTool? Is there a benefit I am missing?

Grantman

Hi Grantman,

ImgTool takes care of structure reallocation and correction, if needed.
I believe Nero doesn't do that
