new to KDVD encoding, authoring - templates?
 

Hi everybody...

Well Santa brought me a DVD-Burner just a few minutes ago! :mrgreen:
And now I'm eager to try it out! I'm pretty new to KDVD encoding, authoring and so on and I'll check out VMesquita Tools first, as it seems like a good point to start right off... Well what I'm asking for right now is some good guides to read, some experiences of users that do KDVD (scripts, special settings, what authoring apps etc.) and anything else to get started!

I suggest you read my KDVD guide and try to follow it. Since you probably have already encoded some KVCDs, you won't find any difficulties. Please leave Vmesquita Tools for the future, since it's more like an advanced tool right now, to avoid multiple interventions when doing many movies.

Well, YOU'll love to encode KDVD's !

You'll love the Quality on high res encodings incl. 5.1 AC3 or the possibility to put several movies on one DVD-R.

I'm right now capturing "Bulletproof" with Adam Satler on RTL wich will also be encoded to DVD-R

I'll look into it more deeply tomorrow. My first project will be putting "The Lord Of The Rings II Extended Edition" on 1 DVD-R (it's on 2 DVDs). For prediction I'd like to check out the Ping-Pong method by you incredible. Is there a guide ready for that already? If not, I'll just use the descriptions in the post that was made a couple of weeks ago...

There you will see an overview. You can also use it when using CCE for encoding! In case of TmpgEnc have a look at CQTester by Borax, as he also now has added the percentual movie/GOP based method to the existing offset prediction in his prediction appl.

Can someone suggest a good DVD->KDVD script, for a high quality movie? My problem here is blocks in black background even at bitrates ~2000 kb/sec...

When encoding with TMPGEnc, what min/max bitrates would you guys suggest, also what do you set the DC Component Precision to?

Your problems with blocks on black backgrounds even when using a high max bitrate do refer (IMHO) to a too low min Bitrate.

Try the following:

- use 800min and 4000max, DC 9

In case of high quality sources I wouldn't treat the frames too much.

STmedianFilter(3,3,0,0).TemporalSoften(1,5,8,15,2)

and maybe a Blockbusterline before adding the borders could solve your "blocky" problem. (whats that kind of blocks, just 8x8 blocks or 16x16 macroblocks?)

But whats your intention? To preserve highest quality or to get the largest count of movies which can be burned to one DVD-R?

Blocks are just 8x8, no macroblocks... My purpose for this project is to fit the whole 215 minutes of LOTR II on one DVD+R, with AC3 Sound, a menu and chaptering... Here my main focus is quality...
Later I'll look into putting let's say 3 movies on one DVD+R with the best quality possible... 8)

Sorry for not answering yor PNs until now, but I'm lookin in my stuff for what you have asked ;-)

In your case Id try to use ShrinkDVD using deep analysis and kicking out the DTS Audio Track (if you don't need it cause you need a very good surround system to get in the advantage of this). Also give the menues a specific higher compression so that more bits will be allocated to the main movie.

Theres also a way to use Ifoedit where you can remux a to KDVD specs recompressed main movie to your existing VOB structure! But thats a little complicated and you should be a bit in IfoEdit ... but if you want to try :arrow: Its sexy :)
