Deinterlace captured videos before making VCDs?

i have captured an avi file using iuvcr cause vdub and nandub just give errors when trying to capture higher resolutions. This avi file in interlaced and is 720x480, i was wondering if i need to run it through a deinterlace filter before using the kvcdx2 templates.

If your original material is a movie, which would have been shot at 24fps, you need to IVTC your capture. If it was originally 29.97 NTSC interlaced, then deinterlace it. You can use AviSynth to do all of this work for you.

thanks for the quick reply, is avisynth a better program to edit video then virtual dub? I captured a friends episode so i would be guessing i should deinterlace it.[/quote]

You can also find another very good (and more complete, I think) set of Avisynth docs here:
http://www.videotools.net/uk/index.php

all i gotta say is holy cow, i downloaded the Avisynth package file from videotools.net and installed the installer. I have read the readme and all it says is that its just a dll fille??? So how in the world am i supposed to use this thing ive looked online to try to find places that explain but its confusing. Is there a step by step tutorial that will show me what to do? I just dont get this at all.
