Burning raw mpeg?
I know when I burn a kvcd I should burn it as a non standard vcd,no probs. This way I can get 800mb on a 80 min cdr. However my prob is that I want to burn some kvcd as raw mpegs.Does this mean I have to make sure they are only 700mb and is there any way round it?

Hi shibumi,
If you want to burn them as "RAW", you have to burn them as MODE-1, which will only give you 700MB. BUT you can try a program called Mode2 CD Maker: http://webs.ono.com/usr016/de_xt/mcf.html This will let you burn your mpeg file as RAW, and will burn in MODE-2, thus using the maximum capacity as in a VCD MODE-2 burn. You'll just have to see if your standalone DVD player supports this mode in DATA, instead of a VCD mode. -kwag |
Thanx kwag. What it is is that my parents dvd player will only play region 2 discs. However it will play raw mpegs from any region and as most of my re-encodes are region 1 I was looking for a way to let them my movies without going to the trouble of doing a ntsc-pal conversion. On a slightly different note what would happen if I burnt an ntsc encode as a pal disc using nero?

Man ! Region is a DVD related toppic. Here you are talking about reading MPEG that are on VCD /SVCD or in raw format
 there is NO region matter with VCD ! Aren't you mistaken region problem with PAL/NTSC one ? (did you know that NTSC standlones in JAPAN are region 2 ?) |
Sorry,I didnt realise that vcd was region free.Strange that the dvd player will play any pal vcd and not any ntsc vcd but will play raw mpegs from either region. And so does it make a difference when using nero which encoding resolution box is ticked seeing as nero isnt going to do any encoding, only burn the mpeg?

This box is used only when nero recode the video, and that is not what we want it to do there.

thanx, still seems odd that it will play any mpeg(as a file) but vcd only at 25 fps.
