Avisynth: Load Real Media?
 

I am using dialhot's avi script to convert my real media (rmvb) file to vcd but there is a problem. It saids "DirectShowSource: I can't determine the frame rate of the video, you must use the "fps" parameter, and then the file location is on the bottom)

What line do i have to insert, i tried fps(25) but that doesn't work. thanks

you do not have to insert an New line..
Just open your Source with ...
DirectShowSource("Your_D2V_Source_Here",25)

got a question... what happens after you convert real media into an mpg1 file? does the size remain the same as the original real media file - and still playable on a dvd standalone, or does it expand to the size of a mpg which is around 400-500 mbs? I DID NOT DOWNLOAD ANY REAL MEDIA FILES!! I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ENCODE REAL MEDIA FORMATS!!

That depends on the bitrate used, of course!

okay... assuming you used cqmatic for that. But in general what would happen to the file size? increase or decrease? and increase by how much & decrease in how much

Like I said, it depends on the bitrate. Most likely RM files have a smaller bitrate than MPEG-1 so probably the filesize will increase - if you want to preserve at least some quality.

I can make a 60min MPEG-1 file 10MB in size but you can't tell what it is supposed to be as it will be a ultra-blocky mess. Then again, I can use 700MB for it and it will look nearly as good as the source.

No, all that I wrote was just theoretical to make you see that the filesize depends directly on the bitrate. The higher the bitrate, the larger the filesize. The bitrate that you need to preserve the quality depends directly on the source material and the filters you use to preprocess it before encoding.

Therefore you can't say whether the file will be bigger or smaller because you can make it bigger or smaller by adjusting the average bitrate. What you think is good quality may look like crap in my eyes and vice versa.

I still think that converting a RM file to MPEG-1 will result in a larger file because you'll need more bits if you want to preserve the quality.

I'm not in computer industry either. What I know comes from reading (mostly here and Doom9) and experimenting. If you know how to read, you can learn everything I have. I explained several times that the filesize is directly proportional to the bitrate you use in encoding to MPEG-1 but you wouldn't believe me.
