Credits suck up your file space
Is there any way to dramatically drop the bitrate, like down to 300, just at the credit sequence at the end of, or beginning of a movie?
I thought that would be a great feature to add to CQ Matic... :) |
Why don't you just cut them ? At 300 kbit/s they'll just be big ugly scrolling squares. Nothing will be readable. So...

Unfortunately, CQMatic can't do a damn thing about that.
That's up to the encoder (a.k.a. Tmpgenc) to take care of those issues. CQMatic simply tries to get the best settings for Tmpgenc, but in terms of the whole movie. Let's see if Hank can add that to HC. Or else, I believe you can find that feature in CCE but it's expensive... If I were you, I'd cut the credits at the end of the movie. But I know: there are some movies that seem to have finished and they're showing the credits and suddenly bang! movie bloopers . For those cases there's no way out. Bottom line: there is no tool that can do that when the encoder is named tmpgenc. Cheers |
For the sake of completeness... and the music. Sometimes there are things after the credits, etc.

In this situation you can use a trim command and heavily blur the movie starting from a given frame. Let say that the credits start at the Nth minutes of the movie, and you play it at FPS frame/sec Code:

Shibblet's Solution
Professional race car drivers say that manual shifting is faster and more efficient, once you learn how to do it. But automatic shifting is quick and easy.
There is quite a few extra steps in order to do this... (manual shifting) In DVD2AVI: Select just the video portion of the movie before the end credits, write a D2V file called "Movie 01.d2v" Then choose the credit area called "Credits.d2v" Then choose the area after the credits called "Movie 02.d2v" Encode the Credits.d2v first, with a low, low bitrate (300 or however low your player will go.) Then mux with Audio for that appropriate section. Then encode Movie 02.d2v at the same resolution you plan to do the whole movie in. Use a moderate bitrate (70-80) for this, usually less than 2 minute, portion of the film. Finally, taking into consideration the file size of Credits.mpg, and Movie 02.mpg. Open up Calcumatic and CQ Matic and encode Movie 01.d2v. When finished Burn all three to the CD or DVD in the order you would prefer... usually Movie 01.mpg, Credits.mpg, Movie 02.mpg. It's a little extra work, but saving the bitrate for the rest of the movie makes a difference in picture quality. |
