Avisynth: Subtitles with Virtualdub + VobSub

I'm using VDub to frameserve "Drunken Master" (110 min 16:9) to Tmpgenc and I'm using VobSub filter for the subtitles. The problem is that I can't get the file down to 800 mb. I'm resizing to 352x480 (bilinear) and crop (16,80,16,80) then smoother(30%).

How do I duplicate the avisynth filters (TemporalSmoother (2,2) and AddBorders (16,80,16,80) in Vdub? I tried the temporal smoother filter and it showed a warning that the video would lag behind the audio.

Is there any other method of doing the subtitles and use an avisynth script?

Kwag, the new tweaks to your template are great! Space Cowboys (130 min) -> file size was about 750 mb and the quality looks as good as CQ=80

thx

SUBTITLES

how do you put the subtitles into your KVCD's????????????????????????????????

what's the secret?

I need some English words to read so I can understand what the hell is going on in my favorite foreign movies

I do my subs with VobSub. It's a plug-in for VirtualDub.

Look for it at www.digital-digest.com in the software section. Or do a "google" search :)

Hi Kwag,

thx I just discovered VobSub and it worked great, BUT- when you use Vdub to frameserve to TMPGenc what filters do you use???

Just open your .avs file with VirtualDub. You should already have the line TemporalSmoother(2,2) in your AviSynth script. So don't use any filters in VirtualDub. Just use VirtualDub as a subtitle "carrier" and frameserver.

Now set your VobSub filter in VirtualDub, and frameserve to TMPEG with your subtitles.

This is off the top of my mind. I believe this is the way I used it the last time I did some subs.

I didn't think this was possible until I tried the VFAPI reader! Also I had to add the line: ConvertToYUY2()
