Dust Not yet recommended...

Hi all!

I just did my first full movie encode using Faerydust as denoiser... The movie was Signs, and the outcome results were excellent but...
There's this scene where Mel Gibson is running really fast through the fields and... Blocks all over the place... that really sucks... well I think I'll stick with flux until that bug is fixed...
still very good filter...

Yep, but I find it's not really that noticible on the TV. Unfortunately that flaw (it's not really a bug, more a shortcoming of the algorithm he used) won't be fixed until he releases the rewrite.

Have you used Dust on that movie? I find it hard to believe that these blocks are hardly visible on TV... they just pop out the screen here :? ...
however, the filter really does work wonders on background artifacts...
I'll stick to Flux as long as the rewrite comes out... 8)

Man... I just looked at the Flux Sample again... It's not near the Dust Quality... :( Is there a way to get rid of the blockiness in high action scenes? I guess not right?

Well, there is. But it would involve rewriting the filter using a better motion estimation algorithm .

From what Steady has posted, it sadly sounds like the rewrite could be quite a ways off. Time for SansGrip to show him up! ;) Er, I mean...

actually, version 5 of dust should be released soon which will reduce blockiness

Reduce but not eliminate. IMO a properly functioning denoiser should not produce blocks under any circumstances ;).

SansGrip: Tell Me what you think about this particular scene on TV... you know I'm talking about where Mel Gibson and his brother are running to the field, trying to find his daughter...
