For all those using PixieDust!

instead of using PixieDust which takes a long time...

try this instead...

SpaceDust()
NoMoSmooth(30,2,6,2,6)

I also add other filters later like temporalcleaner, but use these two together instead of pixiedust and you will get the same results in less time...

hmm - not convinced fot TV captures but for DVD rips it looks ok. Pixiedust is just magic with tv caps.

Kingtuck!

Why did I ever doubt this! I've tried a few encodes of TV caps using:

SpaceDust()
NoMoSmooth(30,2,6,2,6)
TemporalCleaner()
DctFilter(1,1,1,1,1,.5,.5,0)

and the results are fantastic! There is only a very small decrease in picture sharpness but its not greatly noticable when compared to pixie dust! Thanks a million for this!

Hmm..I have seen this kind of suggestion now couple of times. But I have a very noisy and low quality dvd (Robin of Sherwood, 80's tv-serie) and I have made some comparisons with this setting and Pixiedust side by side with avscompare soft and it doesn't produce such a good quality as pixiedust. No way.

Your suggested filters produce much more blurriness and even some ghost effects on hard scenes (like dark cave with smoke around) at least if both scripts use the same resize methods. I tested with Lancos and SimpleResize.

So I suggest you try it with avscompare before you use it. If you have good quality dvd it doesn't matter what you use..you just end up blurring the picture too much with these filters cause codec itself reduces little noise.

I may add:

For fairly clean DVDs, use spacedust. For new and clean VHS, dirty DVDs and other captures, use Fairydust. And for the real crap, use pixiedust :D. It REALLY makes a difference in quality. Sower!, but worth it :wink:

I agree. However, with fairly clean tv captures that do need fairly heavy de-noising Kingtucks method produced execellent results but at a fraction of the time it takes PixieDust

I have had good results using this combo...

I've never encode anything too dirty and don't have an HDTV but I think it does it's job well...

I suggested this for the people that were using pixiedust but were complaining about how long it takes...
