Kwag - In order to illustrate my problem I have sent you 2 jpegs via email.

LAC1 showns the problem when using avisynth from tmpgenc (even with everything remmed out as below)

LoadPlugin("C:\Avisynth\MPEG2DEC.dll")
mpeg2source("F:\Films\LAC\LAC.d2v")
#BilinearResize(672,542,3,0,714,576)
#TemporalSmoother(2,2)
AddBorders(16,17,16,17)
#Trim(0,198430).FadeOut(150)
#ResampleAudio(44100) # CCE 2.5 'crashfix' for Athlons
#== If you want this 'fix' permanently, edit the INI-file:
#== Under [AVSscript] set the CCEcrashfix-option to
#== CCEcrashfix=1

LAC2 shows a more more acceptable image when tmpgenc connects with the .d2v file direct.

The source is a dvd backup using SmartRipper & DVD2AVI. I have tried different versions of avisynth - 1.03 and 1.06 and 2 versions of tmpgenc. Could mpeg2dec be the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

You and me both!

Have discovered that I can import .avs into VirtualDub with excellent quality ... thought about frameserving to TmpGenc, but now I'm having problems opening .vdr (I've played about with priority in Environmental Settings, downloaded ReadAVS.dll etc. etc.) .. it never ends.

Will keep trying

Did you run the AuxSetup that's in the directory where you have Vdub, and selected the "Install Handler" for frameserving?
