Avisynth Maximum Bitrate?
 

Hi everybody.

Are you guys sure, that DVD players can't handle VCDs with bitrates higher than 2500kb/sec?
or why are the templates limited to this? because even with the latest script @ 704x576 resolutions a 90 min. movie would go way higher than 2500 on action scenes. I encoded the same thing with max. Bitrate 3000kb/sec, and in bitrate viewer, I could clearly see that it went up to 2860...

Some players start to jump, twist and turn above 2,500Kbps :lol: when playing non-standard VCDs (KVCDs).
That's why I set the template's MAX bit rate to 2,500. If your player supports higher bit rates, go for it :wink:

Well wouldn't it then be a good idea to settle the max bitrate at let's say 3500, and TMPGEnc would take as much bitrate as it needs for the scene?
Or would TMPGEnc "waste" bits with this method? :?:

If you have a very high action movie, TMPEG will sure use that bit rate, and you'll end up with larger files. I don't think it's necessary to go beyond 2,500Kbps with the new adaptive script, because high speed scenes are blured, and blocks are hardly visible. If you really want to, then try 3,000Kbps MAX. That should just about take care of any minimal visible blocks on high action scenes.

Sorry for still bothering, but even if it wouldn't be necessary with the adaptive script, it shouldn't be wasted bitrate right?

I mean wouldn't TMPGEnc if it was fed with a very soft picture of a high action scene use the same amount of bitrate, no matter if the Max. Bitrate is 2500 or 10000 ?

Not necessarily :!: It should never reach 10,000 with the current adaptive script, but it might go up to 3,000 or 4,000 because of the high movement.Yes I do :D

So If I understood you right, it's not recommended to use to high of a Max Bitrate because the encoder might actually "waste" bitrate on high action scenes, where it's not needed because of the adaptive blurring... did I get that right :?: :roll:

It will probably use a high bitrate on "spikes" of action that you will never see anyway, but you'll notice that your average file size will be larger if you use that MAX bitrate :)
