Avisynth: Interlaced Lines with NTSCfilm ?

Hi guys,
Hope you can help me with this one. I just encoded Equilibrium. I used ForceFilm in DVD2AVI. The movie looks GREAT (with a CQ of 70,38!), but when I'm watching it on my TV I see interlaced lines in some scenes! What can I use in my script to get rid of those? Do I use FieldDeinterlace or Telecide or what? When I watch the movie on my PC the interlacing doesn't show at all...

What do you think about NOT using Forced Film in DVD2AVI and use Telecide and Decimate? But in that case, what settings am I supposed to use for Telecide and Decimate? I'm getting quite desperate here...

This is what I get when running "Preview" in DVD2AVI:

Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Frame Rate: 29.970 fps
Video Type: FILM 99%

So I ran DVD2AVI with Forced Film and got a combed movie. Shows ony on my TV though

, not on my PC.
Should I try a different approach and UNCHECK Force Film and use some kind of deinterlacing in my script instead? If so, please show me what to put in my script. Will Bob() work here?

Feels like I'm talking to myself here...

Could I use Force Film in DVD2AVI and then use Bob() or FieldDeinterlace() in my script to get rid of the combing effect

Sorry to say, but that didn't work.

I will now try with NOT using Force Film and use Telecide and Decimate in my script. Like this:

Telecide(guide=1,threshold=0)
Decimate(mode=3, threshold=1)

Hopefully this will cusolve my problem. I'll keep you posted on my results.

Okay! Don't give up audioslave...I'm sure something will work for you!

Instead of using Force Film in dvd2avi, have you tried just using:

Telecide()
Decimate()

Plain old Telecide() and Decimate() (without any set parameters) have always worked fine for me in the past on ntsc film sources. (though I don't use Decimate() very often since I need to encode @29.97fps for most kvcd templates to work on my player). If worst comes to worst and you just don't want to deal with the headaches anymore, you could always just comment-out the Decimate() line and encode your movie @ 29.97fps instead of 23.97fps. You'd lose ~20% of your compression doing so, but if your movie isn't too long, you should probably still be able to maintain an acceptable CQ level, even @29.97fps. Maybe, maybe not...it depends on your preferences.

But I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing this unless you're just sick and tired of trying different things and it's the last resort

....but surely there must be a right decomb setting or filter that would work on that movie of yours.

I think I screwed up when I made the *.tpr file in TMPGEnc.

I selected "4:3 525 line (NTSC, 704x480)" for "Source aspect ratio" the first time. I have now changed it to "4:3 525 line (NTSC)" for a new encode will see if the combing disappears... And I used "Force Film" in DVD2AVI and didn't use any kind of interlacing in the script. Will let you know if this solves my problem.

You're absolutely right sh0dan! I will use it from now on.

Perhaps you have the answer to my prayers regarding the combing? Is there a "better" filter than DecombLegacy for fixing these kind of issues?

I don't do many DVD->something conversions, so I dont do much IVTC, but so far Decomb 4/5 has done nicely.

I did this NTSC movie as well and did not have any problems. Once I drag my 2nd or 3rd VOB into bitrate viewer and it tells me that it is interlaced rather that progressive, then in DVD2SVCD in the convertion TAB I select Telecide deinterlace then GO. NTSC field operation for DVD2AVI left at auto. The movie turned out good for me. I ONLY use Telecide for deinterlacing NTSC because I've havn't had good results with Smart or Field deinterlasing. Hope that helps.
