prediction for 2 separate files on 1 cd

I have a question for doing prediction on 2 separate files to fit onto an 80min cdr. What I have are two separate d2v files, both 43min in length. The reason I've created two separate project files instead of one large d2v file is I think my prediction is going off when I encode as one large mpeg. So I what I want to do is to run prediction so that each separate d2v will fit onto HALF of an 80min cdr. But I really don't know how to find out the right bitrate values and such using moviestacker! Can anyone help me please?

Hi J-Wo,

Just enter 43 minutes manually in Moviestacker (In the Video Stream window ), and you'll get the average bitrate :D

I came up with 1142 kBit/sec with 128 kb audio using Bearson's calc.

edit: enter 400mb for cd length ;)

ya, but the average bitrate I get will be for fitting 43 minutes onto a full 80min cd, right? What I want is actually 2x43min on a cd. So I want to run prediction to fit 43 min on half of a cd. Do you follow? Any suggestions?

Average Bitrate / 2

Hey ren, that's a cool little bitrate calculator
If anyone wants it, it's here: http://downloads.master4best.com/divx/calcs/

Thanks ren and kwag! I wasn't so sure if it as easy as what Kwag recommended, since doubling the bitrate does not give you the same value as when you increase the # of cds to 2. Also I was thinking about the whole CD overhead issue, and how bearson's calc might be underestimating avg bitrate since it thinks I have a 40min cd, when in fact I plan on joining the two mpegs together and burning them onto an 80 min cd...

Oh questions questions questions... well Bearson's calc gives me a bitrate of 1081.2 (44min, 160kbps, 400min cdr), whereas MS gives 2350/2=1175 (43:46min, 160kbps, 800min cdr). So I'll run some predictions and see which comes closest.

edit: should I be doing anything different for min/max bitrate? Right now my min is ~640 according to 0.57*avgbitrate at max is 2000.

kwag 08-20-2003 11:36 AM

Bearson's is giving you a result, identical to the manual formula I use (exactly 1081.2 ).
So it doesn't take media overhead into consideration.

Like J-Wo I want to do a prediction on 2 separate files to fit onto an 80min cdr but as I'm slower then him I need first of all know some basic knowlange.
Why do you want to change the bitrate if you wanna predict and find out the cq for 1 file who should fit on one half cdr,800/2=400mb :) . My file is 41 minutes-348mb and I want to fit it on 400mb of the 800mb cdr, what should I do? I dont use moviestrcker( I hope I can do this without moviestracker) and my min. bitrate and max. bitrate in ToK is 300-2500. Can somone explain please :P

Well Wolfi, knowing the bitrate has become an important part of prediction nowadays, especially if you're using Kwag's CQmatic as a predictor. Is your 348mb file your source before or after encoding? What type of file is it? People use moviestacker because it can calculate the average bitrate of your movie based on its length (in your case 41 min) and your desired audio bitrate (e.g. 128kbps, or 160kbps). If you want to stick with using ToK for prediction, you will have to change the Spacing parameters in the Prediction and Spacing tab. Its default is Fixed: 1 74min CDR, but you probably want to change it to Free: 400,000,000 bytes. If you are using the latest motion adaptive script, change your min bitrate to 0.57*avgbitrate and max to 2000.

You can download Calcumatic in the CQMatic forum which is kwag's basic bitrate calculator. I hope this helps a little!

Hi J-Wo..

I was gonna say, "IMO, the best method is Split !! ..split, split, slpit."

But, then I got ta thinking.. hmm... maybe there is another alternative
to this, and requires an Actual, "process, functions/formulas, calculations
and prediction" for splitting one source into two and doing a prediction for
that source(s)

Mind you, my point is not getting across very cleary at the moment, but if
someone here is watching/reading this, might understand what I'm about. I'll just bet you that this will kick off at a later date, when someone realizes what
I was saying here. But, then again, I could be pulling a dead finger :?

My file is 348mb before encoding and and the filetype is avi. My audio bitrate will be set on 112kbps. I will not use the MA script. One thing I dont understand is how to calculate the min bitrate, 0.57*avgbitrate :? I heard you said Bearson's calc was good to calculate the bitrate. Bearson's calc gives me 1220kBit/sec so have I understand this right, should I then calculate the min. bitrate like this  0.57*1220 8O :?: I think I'm wrong but you'll have to tell me :( Scince I won't use MA script should max. bitrate be 2000 anyway, I've allways used 2500 :?:

Hi Wolfi,

have you checked out the new CalCuMatic calculator yet ??

I believe that it's ben since, updated to compensate for these (your) types
of encoding projects. Give it a try, else the developer (Kwag) can maybe work w/
you on these, k?

Sorry my answer is late, my other computer were I have all my programs and stuff crashed, MSblast I think  So I need to buy I new HD  I will try the calc when my other computer is back on track :!:

Hi Wolfi,

I know how you feel. I've ben there so many times. This long weekend has
kept me busy debuggin issues on one of my pcs too  Anyways..

I seem to have gotten things working again :) ..but, I'm gonna get me one
of those KVM switching stations. I got three computers going, and I'm getting
a rather bit bored w/ twisting and turning and jumping up and down, yada yada
yada..

CompUSA has a $49 buy for a 2 pc setup, but I want more than TWO, like
at least 4, and they got one for $99 but that's just a tad too steep for me,
and I can't seem to find anything lower at the moment.. so I'll keep looking
Anyways..
