What do I have to change in the MA script if I want the image to be a little bit sharper?
Does the 704x576 resolution produce the best image always if I want to fit the movie to a 1 80 minute cd, even if the CQ is 30 or something, or should I lower the resolution and cranck up the CQ?

And please explain why!

Whow.. the more the CQ is, the better the image.

If your CQ goes below 60, you should think about lowering your res. Now if you are doing KDVD, you only have 2 choices : 704*576 or 352*576. But for KVCD you should try 544*576, 480*576, 352*576 and finally (very long movie) 352*288.

For you other question, you can try
- asharp(2, 4)
or
- GripSize(resizer="LanczosResize")

But note that your CQ will go down when your sharpen your image.

What
For DVDs(KDVDs), you can use: 352x240(28, 352x480(576), 704x480(576) and 720x480(576).

You can do DVD in VCD res ? I didn't know.
And for the last one (720*576), as it is above 704*576, I haven't mentioned it there (out of purpose). But you're right.

Do you think 544x576 CQ 63 is better looking on tv than 704x576 CQ 50?

Usually it should look better with CQ 63 @ 544x576, but there's noone that can tell better than you !

I had several movies that looked just awesome at 704x576 although you wouldn't guess that by the CQ...
