Avisynth: Sharpening without making blocks noticeable?
is there any filter that can sharpen my movies without making blocks and noise more noticeable.
I'm asking this because i am encoding my movie at 352x240 and it looks very soft/blurry. i don't want to increase the resolution by to much because i want to keep the file size low. The source resolution is 576x304. Thanks in advance |
Hi muhali3,
If you are using the MA optimal script, you can change the line that reads: asharp(1, 4) To: asharp(2, 4) or to asharp(3, 4) That will increase the sharpness of the picture. Even if you are not using the MA script, you can still add that filter, and use it as above. -kwag |
Is it best to sharpen first before smoothing or after?

Just my 2 cents here:
I made the experience that it is not worth it to go for a lower resolution and sharpen the picture, rather than going for a higher resolution and soften it. what I mean is : if you want to get more sharpness, simply go for a higher resolution, because filesize will get bigger too if you use a higher sharpening value, and the results might not please you. at least they don't please me. |

 i did the same: was 352x480 with "sharp" and got the (round) same size and little more quality with 480x480 without "sharp". of course, don't know if i will get the same from differents movies with differents final times! only the tests will show! :) |
