528x576 and 704x576

I've been using the optimal scripts with the 704x576 templates. I just started to use the 528x576 template and i was just wondering when encoding it with this template, the movie screen is not the same as the 704x576, that is, the borders take up more space. how can i get around this? I heard something about using fitcd or moviestacker but not 100% sure.

One thing. whats the difference between 4:3 625 line (PAL) and 4:3 625 line (PAL, 704X576) in tmpenc's setting. I usually the second one.

You cant't. Do the maths : 704/576 = 1.22, 528/576=0.91. To fit a picture in 528 pixels insteed of 704 without screwing the A/R you multiplicate the size of the borders by 1.22/0.91.
You can use 544*576 if your player supports it. The borders will be a little less big.

This has nothing to do with your current problem : you have to use Fitcd or Moviestaker to compute correct parameters for the resizing and the borders whatver the resolution you use. This is to be sure to not screw up the A/R.
But if your script uses Gripcrop, it take cares of everything ans Moviestacker isn't necessary.

The pixel shape is not the same in a DVD and a regular VCD/SVCD or VHS. This has to be taken in account when you do the resizing has the source was originally resized according to this difference.
I mean that if you use 704x576 and your source was originally a VHS (or a analog capture), you screw up the A/R.

This part is take in account by Moviestaker (there is a check box called "ITU something" whose purpose is this, but I'm not sure if it Gripcrop is aware of that.

I usually use 704x576 in gripcrop when a movie is full screen and 720x576 when the movie is full screen so i can get borders not too much or too less (i use the 704x576 template). I know this is wrong (dialhot mentioned that directors decide on this, but i like the movie in this way. To get my movie the same amount of borders with 544x576 what would i type in grip crop, as i tried both 720,576 and 544x576 and 704x576 but they never give me the same amount of borders

As you wrote the same thing twice, it's hard to understand your point :-)

You didn't understand anything of what I said !
I was talking about removing completly the black bars and have always a fullscreen picture, whatever the resolution !
The resolution used has nothing to do with what directors decided : they are doing MOVIES they don't care about what you do on your VIDEOS.

Read again my first post. I think it started with words like "you can't". And continue with "do the maths...".
