hello,

Tomorrow I'm going to purchase a new cap. card and hard drive and I think it's gonna be a wintv GO card and an 80 - 100 mb hard drive.

Kwag, I know you recomend this card but since it's so inexpensive (about 30-40$) that makes me a little skeptical. I'd be willing to spend up to 100$ for a really good one. I've read some reviews about the wintv GO and most were thumbs up. Are there any you would suggest instead of this one? My vcr only has composite and rca jacks.

Also, ya think an 80 g hard drive should be sufficient and should I get a fast one like a cheetah or does that matter? I think I'm going to capture compressed AVI with VDub. My goal is to convert my vhs tapes to KVCD.

I've read that video captures are more "noisy". What does this mean?

thx
ren

Hi rendalunit:

You'll be amazed at the quality you'll get with the WinTV GO. Just be sure you download the btwincap drivers http://btwincap.sourceforge.net

An 80 gig HD will be fine. Just be sure to capture with the Huffy CODEC. You'll be able to capture a little over an hour per 18GB disk space.

So 80GB should capture around 5 hours of compressed looseless AVI video/audio with VirtualDub.

Be sure to install the FlaXen VHS filters for VirtualDub. They help with chroma and noise reduction, specially for VHS captures.

You'll have fun!.

hey, do you use the default settings in this FlaXen VHS filter? works good but almost too good. kind makes to video look a bit untrue. flat colors go funky.

I've used it with the default settings. Results are pretty good.

Check your saturation level in VirtualDub.
You might have to adjust it because of the filter.

Hey Kwag, I got all my hardware setup- 80 gb harddrive and the wintv go and the btwincap drivers loaded and the vhs filter plugged in. Now im having some problems with Vdub;
first, it will only let me capture at 320x240 or 352x288 or 640x480 When I cap. at 320x240 it avgs. 15 g/hr but I'm going to lose half the res. when I resize to 352x480 right? When I cap. at 640x480 it avgs. 30 g/hr and there's major frame droppage.
second, it doesn't save my settings. Everytime I start it I have to go to Video/Source/tv tuner and change it to ch. 3.

thx
ren

Hi rendalunit:

Please check and see that the driver is correctly installed. I don't think so.
Because I capture at 352x480 all the time with the WinTV GO and VirtualDub.

Or have you gone into the "File/Capture AVI/Video/Set Custom Format" and there select 352x480?

hi Kwag,

The problem was that I didn't spend enough time playing with VDub and I didn't see the set custom format button! Now I'm capturing at 352x480 and playing around with the different filters- this program looks very powerful! Now I see how cheezy WinDVR is.

But my latest problem is that I'm trying to frameserve with VDub to TMPGe and I'm getting an error "MSVCR70.dll" not found. I'm scouring the forums to see what the prob is.

thanks man

I found the answer to my problem of the "missing file MSVCR70.dll" error in TMPGenc. I COPIED the file MSVCRT.dll in the WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder to MSVCR70.dll (COPY not Rename!) << i'm using Windows 2000
