PICVideo MJPEG settings
:?: When capturing TV from cable (no cable box), what settings are best for the MJPEG codec? I'm currently using setting 19, RGB24, 29.970 at 352x480. I get jerky motion in the capture, although no frames are being dropped.
My target is KVCDx3 MPEG-1 352x480 WinTVGO 190 P4 2.53 VirtualVCR |
Try YUY2 colorspace, it's generally the recommended one. Is the jerkiness in the MPEG file or in the original, captured clip?

I"ve experimented with PicVideo but abandoned it. Even at 19, my result was jerky after pulldown. I believe that PicVideo is not designed for interlased material so pulldown doesn't seem to work correctly. I also noticed that the quality wasn't up to what I wanted so I abandoned it.
You could try using Huffy which will give you 2:1 compresison or even try a YV12 lossless codec since YV12 allows for 20-30% more compression. The doom9 forum has at least three experimental YV12 lossless codecs that will produce files 70-80% of huffy's files. They are slower but your P4 should handle it. One thing I do is to capture with Huffy, edit and filter through Avisynth then save back into Huffy. Since my final video sequence is only 352x240@24fps, the resulting file size is about 1/10th the size of my full Huffy capture. |
