close apps in system tray to avoid dropped frames!

woohoo!!!!

up until now was getting 5-10% frame droppage with vdub- shutdown most of the applications running in the system tray and now- less than 1% frames dropped and around 30% cpu usage. Before it was around 50% cpu usage. I don't know which app may have caused the problem but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the firewall.

you can also start->run->msconfig->enter-> click on the tab that says start up. Uncheck everything but systray. click apply. click OK and it will reboot you.

When you computer starts up it will not launch any programs automatically at boot, leaving system resources available for your work.

hey FiniteMan!

I tried that Msconfig.exe proggy and this is the first time my Win2K completely crashed!!!

I got this error: The procedure entry point SMapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll
usually i can go into the task manager and shut down an app that's not responding but this error message wouldn't go away!!

I discovered that the frame droppage during video capture was due to my hard drive failing. I've replaced it and get very minimal frame drops. Also I've mounted the hd in my case so that there's some air flow between it and the other drive so it won't get so hot :D

thx,
ren

Hi

I use EnditAll - its free from here http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/enditall/ It clears out uneccesary apps without having to re-boot
