I've been searching and like my post below I see most of you are re-encoding and pefrecting your captures. Well all I'm looking for is a card that I can capture with, hook up an IR remote too, and use to timeshift and record TV shows to play back on my HDTV.

I probably won't archive much stuff and don't want to make a habit of re-encoding stuff just record it like a VCR, but with great quality.

Is theh PVR-250 the answer or should I look into some other options.

Thanks!

Oddly enough I just use my PVR-250 for recording but where this card is supposed to shine is in its HTPC capabilities. Don't expect too much from the Hauppage software, the reason this card is affordable is because they don't invest much in the way of application development but they are good at driver updates. SnapStream and SageTV both work with this card and have some really cool features. If you are adventurous you could try MythTV, I know Kwag seems happy with it.

Dano,

what program do you use for trimming the video and audio while keeping them in sync?

I have not had sync problems using either Mpeg2vcr or Virtualdub
Mpeg-2. The PVR-250 does not use the sound card to capture audio, which some criticize, but I believe this was done to reduce sync errors and I find the sound output to be rather good.
