Is Google loosing it's edge?
Hi people,
I've noticed that recently I'm getting less and less search results in google, compared to what I got a couple of months ago. To give you an example, two months ago I searched for "KVCD" on google, and the results were about 80,000. Today, I search, and it's 28,900 (and going down!). I also searched for some of our friends :cool: like "doom9" :arrow: 57,200 and "vcdhelp" :arrow: 36,900 But look again when I search on yahoo and altavista :!: Yahoo: "kvcd" :arrow: Results 1 - 20 of about 137,000 for kvcd. "doom9" :arrow: Results 1 - 20 of about 121,000 for doom9. "vcdhelp" :arrow: Results 1 - 20 of about 111,000 for vcdhelp. Altavista: "kvcd" :arrow: AltaVista found 140,000 results "doom9" :arrow: AltaVista found 119,000 results "vcdhelp" :arrow: AltaVista found 108,000 results What's going on with google :?: -kwag |
@Kwag,
While updating a website for a friend I noticed that meta comments were being ignored by Google's crawler and their comments in the <header> and comments in alt= were being used by Google. SEO (search engine optimization) techniques to improve the website ranking has changed for Google. Others, like Yahoo still use meta tag comments. After using sitemeter as you recommended, to track hits, the ranking in Google went from 62 to 16. The website was now the 16th item on the first Google search. Traffic has increased from 3 hits per day to 25 per day. I would look at your meta tags and header comments, etc. I include both and comments in the image alt= 8) -BP |
Thanks BP :D
I just updated all the META Keywords and META Descriptions :D We'll see if the rate goes up in the next robot scan :cool: -kwag |
@Kwag,
Also, update your <TITLE>keywords </TITLE> and <P align="center">http://www.digitalfaq.com/archives/error.gif</p> This seems to be where Google's crawler looks now. Based on the descriptions in my search results they came from these areas. BTW, found out that Google's crawler starts beginning of each month, so your timing could be perfect. 8) -BP |
I still solely use Google and usually find it better than Yahoo and AltaVista but I guess that's my personal preference.
With the other two search engines you have to sift through so much crap before you get to what you are after. Thanks for the info on the Metatag BP. :) |
