Linux: Dvd shrink problem

When I run dvdshrink under wine it won't recognize the dvd drive. I have it mounted on /dev/cdrom1 but it doesn't see it.
Any idea how to get it working? btw- its fedora core 2
thnx

Hi Ren,

You must run as "root" or "chroot" wine so it runs as root.
Are you running as "user" level :?:

hey kwag,
thanks for the fast reply. I tried running as root and its the same deal. In full disk mode I try to select dvd drive and it's blank and there's no options in the drop down menu.

What is your DVD drive mount point :?:
You might have to create a symbolic link for your mount point to say "E:"
For example, if your DVD drive mount point is /cdrom/ (that's on my machine, which is BSD, so your mount point will be different), you would type:

ln -sf /cdrom/whatever /E:

That will create a file on your root drive called E: which will actually point to the /cdrom/whatever

Also, I recall that you might have to check the file "wine.conf" and check how is the DVD drive identified.
That's probably the reason that DVDShring can't see the drive.
Check this last option first :!:
The file should be on /etc

If you can't find it, open a shell, and change to your root directory "cd /" and type: "whereis wine.conf" or type "locate wine.conf" and edit the file.

Hey Ren,

What about ripping the DVD with a native Linux program, and then use DVDShring to transcode, by just opening the folder ;)

Edit: Found this: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...5&pagenumber=1

hey kwag, I tried everything suggested here and the link you posted- still no luck :( I installed winetools and changed the dvd mount point in the config file and now wine doesn't run anymore :p

Code:

wineserver: /root/.wine/config is not a valid registry file
wine: for some mysterious reason, the wine server failed to run.
