MailInfo and Mozilla Thunderbird
 

Hi all,
I moved to Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, and I feel much comfortable with this software than I was with MS products.

I read about the MailInfo program and I found it very interesting, to keep the track of important sent mails. But unfortunately it just works with Outlook :roll: .

Do you know of a program/plugin that does the same, keeping track of sent mails, with Mozilla Thunderbird?.

Hmmm, I'm afraid I didn't explain myself well.

Kwag, when you say the "sent" tab you do you refer to the folder, in the directory tree, where sent messages are kept?. If yes, I didn't refer to that. In fact, this is not what MailInfo does (do you know MailInfo?).

MailInfo is supposed to keep track of your sent mail, so when it is opened by the person you sent the mail to, it warns you. You can even configure it to alert you every time it is opened and read, or just that message opened for more than "X" seconds,... and other settings.

I don't think the "sent" tab can do that. Thunderbird is supposed to have the chance to select "acuse de recibo" (too lazy to look for a proper translation :oops: ), but it doesn't work properly. MailInfo does it, and more things.

Something like it in program or plugin for Thunderbird?

I used that a long time ago, until they started to charge people :!:
It started out as a free service, and I believe there should be others offering the same services.
The great thing about itraceyou is that it worked with any E-Mail client, because you basically use their SMTP server for your outgoing E-Mails. So it knew how to send to your destinations, with embedded code so you could have acknowledges when someone opened the E-Mail.

The only problem is that this only works if the destination is "HTML" enabled,
If you send someone an E-Mail, and the recipient does not allow embedded HTML attachments, you will never get an acknowledge when the E-Mail is opened. I, for example, have that disabled so I can't get viruses embedded on HTML, etc.
So you would get a confirmation that the E-Mail has been delivered, but delivered to my POP3. Not actually to my E-Mail client.

Are you aware of "Throw Away" Emails :?:
There are many similar services, but this one doesn't require any registration :!:
You just enter a user name, and that's it :!:
It lasts for a week, so it's good for "one-time" registrations, so you don't get any future spam.
For example, I just sent an E-Mail to kvcd@mytrashmail.com, and when I go to the web page and I enter kvcd in the Temporary Email User Name field, my test E-Mail is there :D

very good idea that of "mytrashmail". I'm sure I'll make use of it.

I wandered about Mozillazine forums, and found several topics about this question. According to the answers given, there's no software/plugin that does what MailInfo does right now. In Thunderbird you can select "read confirmation" when you write an email, but you will receive it just in case the mail reader gives OK to reading confirmation. And to activate the "read confirmation" option you must activate it first in the account profile and in preferences...

I think Mozilla team will have to improve that. In the meantime I'll keep looking for an application like MailInfo for Thunderbird.
