Voip PC2Phone services

@All,

Came across http://www.voipjet.com and heard some good comments
about their service. Has anyone else tried them or any others. I currently
use Skype pc-to-pc, but heard SkypeOut is costly compared to other
Voip providers. Here are some others that I have not investigated:

1) VoipUser

2) VoipBuster

3) MutualPhone

Your comments will be most welcomed 8)

The answer is:

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I have something else to add
I was just setting up a free "phone-to-IP" service called IPKALL http://www.ipkall.com which let's you redirect a physical (free!) telephone number they assign you, and point it to any SIP phone address
So this is what I'm doing now: I use voipbuster from home on my PC to call the states for free.
But in my UTStar, I have set up an account (free too, of course ) from www.voipuser.org and I can make free calls from any hot spot with the telephone, but here comes the good part!, I just forwarded a free telephone number from ipkall to my number at voipuser.org, and the phone will ring on my WIFI phone :) (Still setting that up)
So now I have outgoing and incoming calls for free :D

:D
I'm having fun with this :!:
I'm installing an "Asterisk" software PBX ( actually Asterisk@Home ) http://asteriskathome.sf.net
With this, I'll be able to give extensions to my wife and the kids :D
Then we'll really save on phone bills

I just checked out Voipbuster and I am amazed at the service!

And love the price

I don't like being tied to my computer though to make phone calls... Does anyone know if the service is compatible with the USB to RJ11 adapters that work with Skype?

No, but it's compatible with a regular SIP ATA box :D
Look: http://www.voipuser.org/index.php?na...ewtopic&t=2380
I've been all over that site like a fly
I think it's one of the best references for VoIP stuff.

Forgive my ignorance, but this whole world of VOIP/SIP/etc... is all very new to me!

What exactly is a SIP ATA box - and where can I get one?

(my usual source for unusual electonic items, ie, ebay, gives me "zip" (zero) when I search for "SIP ATA Box")

(S)ession (I)nitiated (or initiation) (P)rotocol. Definition here: http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=SIP
You can buy MANY things here :D : http://www.voipsupply.com
That's where I bought my UTStarcom F1000 WIFI phone.

Just search for "SIP" or "VoIP" on eBay ;)

I think I'll do some more reading before I make any purchases of technology I don't understand

For now, I'll use Voipbuster with a headset on my laptop WiFi connection when I need to make a LD call away from my desktop.

The USB-RJ11 option looked very simple for Skype - I hope they develop something like that for Voipbuster soon too!

Just a little update to this thread.
I installed Asterisk@Home, and it rocks
http://asteriskathome.sourceforge.net
It's very confusing at the beginning, until I got the hang of it, but it works like a charm.
If anyone is interested in setting up a VoIP PBX, and saving many thousands of dollars (compared to a Avaya or other commercial PBX), then I strongly suggest you give this a try :)

On another note, if anyone would like to make FREE calls to any land line telephone in the USA, then point your browser here: www.goiax.com
Sign up for a free account, and then go download this: http://www.freshtel.net/firefly/download/
Set up the account as a IAX (not SIP), and use the settings you get from the account you just signed up.
Now, excersise your vocal cords

And here's a picture of exactly what I'm doing in my home

http://www.digitalfaq.com/archives/i.../2005/10/1.png

The machine running Asterisk@Home is an old Celeron 600Mhz with only 64MB RAM 8O
And look at the resources it's consuming

Karl this looks magnificent.
I was wondering, I would love to run Asterisk at home on a small hardware such as a Soekris box.
I guess the best way would be to run it under Manuel Kasper's M0n0BSD which is a very lite (without Aspartame ) BSD "distribution" specifically made for embeded environments ;-).
Is there any Asterisk@Home project fork that delivers Asterisk PBX served in a small footprint BSD plate?
And hey, watch out!!! I work for Avaya in Ptg  .
Cheers buddy

Well, the ISO image is about 550MB, but once installed, the distribution takes about 1.2GB on your hard drive so you'll need at least a 2GB flash card. But I'm sure it should run without any problems :)
