No, I swear you, except some tracking cookies, nothing since 2 years.
my tools : spybot, ad-aware (I make one scan a month; they never find nothing...), pest patrol (shareware version), spyware blaster, hosts file, hijack this...
I don't use Internet Explorer except for winupdate; I use Opera.
I'm very careful with p2p tools.
and of course firewall (sygate) and antivirus (EtrustEz).

I too have gotten on the band wagon using AVG Grisoft as my real-time
anti-virus protection and AVAST for deep scans. The results with AVAST
found 4 infections and since I removed them my PC runs much better.

I was going to upgrade to AntiVir premier version as I thought €20 (Euros) a year was a very reasonalble price for the upgrade.

Would you guys suggest I use BitDefender as my real-time scanner and use Avast for deep scans instead?

The opposite : avast has an email scanner that is one of the most important module in an antivirus prog. Bit defender (free) does not have this.

Use avast as your regular scanner + E-Mail scanner, and use BitDefender as deep scanner.

The main issue : your will overload your system uselessly. Real time scan means reading/analysing any files that you open on your PC !
(and not only you, but the system also. For instance, you read a video, the codec dll is scanned. This codec need a color parser ? It is scanned also... en so on.

An other issue can be a mutual lock of the tools : each one detecting than something try to "hijack" an executable when you launched it, and deny the laucnh ! This happens few times only but it is painfull.

I used antivir, than AVG Free, then Avast. Each time I changed because the new one was better than the previous.
But during this time, perhaps antivir has becomed better, I can't tell. All I know if that for the moment, avast is well.

Thank you guys for all your info, it is still slightly confusing which is the best as all Anti-Virii progs are constantly updated and bettered.

However I think I will install Avast for my deep scan and BitDefender for deeper scanner.

I hope this works out. :D

I downloaded both AVAST and BitDefender as well, and are now running in my computers. I have also scanned this computer with both programs, and fortunately do not have any viruses, however, according to BitDefender, I have 34 I/O errors.........no description of such errors other than the number of errors given in the report.........Now I have to hunt for this errors and correct them.any suggestions on how to do it?

I would also like to thank everyone for their contribution to this topic.

I now have BitDefender as my deep scan and it found:

Win32Netsky@mm
Trojsn.Zorro.A
JS.Trojan.Winbomb.F

It also reported 12 I/O errors. :?: Wounder what this means???
Now avast!! is my real-time anti-virus program as well.
No problems so far. :) My system runs very fast now and
seems like new.

Simply means files used by the system and that can't be scanned. Other programm just don't give this info but no programm can scan system dll if they are already in use. But don't worry, as the memory is scanned first, you know that these files are not corrupted.

Hello to all:

Scanned my old laptop with Avist and found found the following:

WIN32 -NG VCK E
Win32 CTX
Win32 Beagle-BJ

All of them are "in the virus vault"
Will run BitDefender tonight and see if I am clean. I was using AVG as my virus software and it was not detecting the virri mentioned above.
