Which Processor is better??
I just wanted to know if you guys can help me by letting me know which processor is better:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ or Intel Pentium 4 519K |
I'm trying to buy a new computer, but I don't know which one I should buy...
Which processor will be the best one for video encoding? Is it true that AMD Athlon 64 is only good with the 64-bit Windows? I've heard that if it is used with 32-bit Windows then it will only use half of its speed. Is this true? |
Hi LeeKuid,
I read this great article over @ D9 about the Athlon64 X2 processor and reports over there say it is better than the latest P4's with dual cores. I think this will be my next CPU and finally I will switch from Intel to AMD. Read about it here there are a few links with benchmarks also. Thanks for the reply, but that article talk about the Athlon 64 X2. The one I can afford to get is the regular Athlon 64.
Do you know if it is better than Pentium 4 K519?? Some people say it only is faster if you have 64-bit windows otherwise the Pentium 4 would be faster. Is this true? |

If you have just the normal Windows XP maybe you should opt for the P4. ;) |
I've asked about a million people the same question, and half of them say that P4 is better and the other half that Athlon 64.
There's people that say, it is only faster if you have 64-bit OS otherwise the Pentium 4 would be faster. Others say that since Athlon 64 is capable of processing more, but is only processing at a 32-bit rate then it should even be faster that it would be if it was running under a 64-bit OS since it was made to take more load. Can anybody please help me, and let me know which statement is true so I can know which one to buy? Thanks |
I think the AMD64 CPU only gets otimised if you are using the 64bit Windows OS and plus as for encoding the encoding software has to also support the 64bit processor otherwise there is no performance gain.
If you read that thread in the link I posted you will find some of this info out. :) |
