FolderShare (for any kind of files) is not completely same as AudioGalaxy was for mp3, but it rocks anyway.
I am thinking about how to set it to share digital video related files, programs, avisynth filters, etc. between KVCD.net members.

I registered, but I quickly shut down the client :!:
The reason is that I could see my complete workstation from the web browser, and if anyone cracks this program, they have full access to your machine :!:
The concept is very nice, but I just can't trust it.
I think I will start using WASTE again, which is very secure because of the Public key encryption it has.
Nobody can access your machine unless you give them your key.
And all file transfers are fully encrypted, so not even your ISP can tell what you are transfering :cool:

Thanks for the info about Folder Share and the test you have done, this was my concern on how secure it was and now that you have brought to light it's weakness I don't fancy opening up my PC to the World to exploit.

Thanks also Karl for the link to Waste. I shall look into it when I get back from my holiday and install it, I think this is a good idea and a much more secure way of doing things.

One thing though about waste suppose you are sharing with someone and you give them you key and they give you their key. How safe is it in this situation? Can it be exploited if that person was a hacker?

WASTE can't be hacked, because all data is transfered encrypted. Just like secure shell.
It's a network of "trusted" peers.

I used to run a FTP server from home and with my firewall I never got hacked but then again maybe I was lucky.

FTP is not too safe, as all communications are clear text.
Unless you use FTP over SSH, and then you are ok :)
I personally don't use FTP or Telnet anymore. Only ssh and ftp over ssh.

I use ssh all the time to do backups over the net, from work to home.
I just pipe FTP over ssh, and all transfers are secure.
Of course, when I'm in Windows, I use one of Putty's programs, "psftp.exe" :)
