The 2.8 GHz 820 dual core is performing very well for me compared to the old P4 2.53GHz.

Althought it seems about the same speed when running a single program, it handles multiple processing very, very well. For example:

8 concurrent DVD2AVI's
1 concurrent Nero Burn
1 concurrent DVDShrink
1 concurrent HeadAc3he

The old machine would either hang up or go super slow. This one just breezes through.

The bottleneck here is more the disc than the CPU. DVD2AVI do not take much CPU but if you start 2 of them on a "normal" () PC, all will be super super slow. Just because of disc transfer !
Shrink and Headeache is an other story. And I hope you won't take the habit to burn a disc while doing all of this. You were lucky here to have a sucess. Beguiner's luck. But Murphy is watching you and will give you a visit very soon

Not a chance. This was only to a R/W for testing. I normally run nothing else with Nero, having had bad experiences in the past. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
