If the price is right, yes
And it's usually way lower than regular telephone fees.
Take a look at some providers here: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Cheapest+ATAs+and+Service

@anyone,

I found two ADSL providers so far in my area, (1) Lighting Bolt and (2)
Speakeasy. They both provide 728 download / 128 upload speeds with
no phone connection for $45 and $56 monthly respectively. They offer rebates on
adsl modem and LB charges $129 for installation. Any thoughts would
be welcomed.

@All

I just found this, which is VERY interesting.
Read this (Community VoIP to PSTN Service) very carefully: http://www.voipuser.org/forum_topic_328.html

This is just great news for most people in Europe, specially UK, but will also work OK for making calls to USA

Anyway, once you register, they will block your SIP account for 3 days, and then after that, you can make world wide calls for free, from the minutes pool

On another note, I can't wait for this to arrive by mail

http://www.voipsupply.com/product_in...roducts_id=802

A couple of days ago I was brainstorming about a WIFI SIP phone, and I googled it, and BINGO!, I found it
So I ordered it

@Kwag,

WOW!!! Community phone pool. This is worth serious investigation.
The concept is great, but very prone for abuse. Keep us informed with
your use of this phone and service.

Hey Michael,

You're in UK
Maybe you can use the voipuser.org system to make your local calls for free

Hi Karl,

Yes I will have to look into this as it sounds really interesting.

The only thing is, my telephone company already supply me with free local and national calls day and night for £9.99 a month.

It sounds interesting though, I will have to check the prices also.

Thanks for the info Karl.

Arrived today
Oh, it's so sweet
I'm having a ball with this phone

It sounds better than my cell phone
I'm using my "stanaphone" account for testing (www.stanaphone.com), and it receives calls perfectly too
If I'm out of (WIFI) range, then anyone that calls me will get the voice mail.
If anyone wants to make a test call, by all means give me a call at 914-455-5934 so you can hear what it sounds like
( Not now It's 3:30 AM here. Anytime after 12:00PM AST is fine. )

I still not know what to do with this technology (I mean the phone, not even speak about the car)
Can you explain me it, please?

Very cool Phil
But I'm not about to tear up the dashboard on my car

On another note, the WIFI phone works like a charm
Yesterday, when I went out to lunch and I was about to start eating, I looked at my WIFI phone, and it was connected
I said to myself, this can't be, because I'm like a mile away from work, where I did have it connected to the access point, but it's impossible to be connected where I was at the moment.
Well, I looked at the function on the phone where it gives you the current IP address and other information, and indeed, I was connected to someone's access point that didn't have a WEP key
So the phone automatically scans for open access points, and connects.
I decided to try and make a call to a friend at work, and WHOAAA!, it worked
Then he called me back, and the phone rang and we talked again
It's a pretty nifty gizmo

Have you used Skype, or other Voice Over IP programs
Well, it's the same thing, but you can carry it around
It's a WIFI phone, and I can connect to any wireless access point available. Once it connects, then it authenticates with the provider I have programmed in the phone. For example, I'm currently using stanaphone http://www.stanaphone.com
They give you a real free telephone number in the New York area, and you may receive calls there for free.
But for making calls, you must pay, but the prices are ridiculously low. Just go to the site and enter different area codes and you'll see.
So this phone allows me to make and receive calls anywhere there is WIFI coverage, similar to a cellular phone, but WAY cheaper
I'm actually using it now all day at work for outgoing calls, and I don't use my cellular phone for outgoing calls anymore. I only use my celll phone for incoming calls
