Just found this: http://www.iopus.com/ipig/
It's a free client, just like "Google Secure Client" (which no longer works).
There's also a free 5 user VPN server

I have a WEP and wonder would this secure my wireless transmission
Also, with encription and de-encription is this going to drastically reduce
my DSL connection speed

Thanks

Hi BP,

Yes, the speed is slower, but your security is #1

@Kwag,

I've used "ipig" for a few days and although it's sometimes slow, it
seems to protect my wireless access pretty well I'd like to find
a tool like "AirSnare" to tell me how well it blocks wireless intruders.
Can you recommend any Windows programs I found a small
program called WepKey v1.4 that creates 40bit and 104bit ascii
or hex keys. I now change the WEP every week. I also hid my SSID.
Will this be enough to protect me from a wireless attack Is there
something else I could try.

BTW, I was interested in creating a VPN server from an old PC I have
laying my house. I want to use Windows 2000 and install "ipig's" client
v 1.02 and use this as my VPN and tunnel via internet. I D/L their
software which allows up to 5 free clients, but for me this is just an test
for my own knowledge. Can this be done or is Linux the only way

Thanks

Hi BP ,
Errrm, how shall I put this?
Linux is most surely not the only way to go.
Even because BSD is au pair with Linux.
Plus, the nicest VPN projects are using BSD and *not* Linux.
Remember me mentioning m0n0wall and pfSense?
M0n0wall is a state-of-the-art router/firewall/vpnserver/Host AccessPoint/etc... booting and running off a 16MByte CF Card .
I'll tell you, this baby rocks!
And you can configure it via HTTP or HTTPS(secured) sessions with it's wonderfull GUI .
pfSense is still in Alpha stage but it will reach Beta and RC in a few weeks.
pfSense promisses to be the next step to m0n0wall users even because installation has been much improoved when compared with m0n0wall.
Now try to do all this with M$ Windows...
Of course W2K and the ipig server might do the job but just remember that M$ is about to move W2K to the legacy products thus stoping the maintenance updates (or at least not distributing them as regularly as with W2K3).
So I think you should consider W2K3 if you test it with W2K and you like it.
Oh, did I mention that m0n0wall and pfSense can be installed on a generic desktop PC with no need for a Soekris/WRAP SBC?
You could try it on that same PC that you'll use for ipig .
Cheers BP

You bet
http://www.lookatlan.com/download_lal.html
With that, you can make a "footprint" of your network, and it will even E-Mail you if some new MAC address shows up on your network

Yep. It's called a VPN
I'm now setting up a VPN in my house for all wireless clients (kids, wife).
On my firewall, I'll block every IP destination that comes from the AP, so only the VPN tunnel will work
This way, only VPNs can access the Internet, and even if someone cracks my AP key, they will never be able to connect

Yes, you can use Linux or BSDs, but if you already have a Windows machine running, I think the iPIG server is hard to beat

This is just what I want to do You still need an anti-virus program for
email attachments and such, but the protection would be quite strong
from wireless attacks With my own local VPN client server,
response time should be faster. Thanks again guys
