Hard Drive Partitioning Question

I know this doesn't have anything to do with advanced video conversion, but this board has never let me down before for any of my other computer/technology related questions, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Anyway, my question revolves around partitioning of my hard drive and multibooting different operating systems.

I have two primary partitions on the drive, each with it's own copy of XP installed.

On the first partition, the boot.ini file contains:

Code:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP 1" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="XP 2" /fastdetect

I can boot from either partition, BUT regardless of which partition I boot from, the first partition is mapped as drive C:, and the second as D: so I have trouble opening some programs when I boot from the second partition of the drive (they think the system drive is C:, but it's really D:).

Is there a way to force windows to recognize whichever partition I boot from as Drive C: ?

I am pretty sure there is 3rd party boot manager software that can do this, but I wanted to know if there was a simple solution.

Many thanks,
Icarus
