MojoPac
Now this is cool product. 8) Carry your pc with you on a USB or
external hard drive to use on any PC and leave no trace that you were there :mrgreen: http://www.mojopac.com/portal/conten...16E9BD93DE1547 I'm getting a 2 GB thumb drive ASAP to try this out on my laptop. Right now it only supports Win XP, but after purchased you can get a version that supports Win 2K. :) You can install your own software (i.e. Windows Office, Anti-Virus, etc.) space permitting. I know some of you could really find great ideas using Mojopac :idea: :mrgreen: -BP |
Just found Moka5 which is another virtualization PCLive software. It's
more mature than MojoPac, and has better support: http://www.moka5.com/ It's free and I'm trying it with a USB external 60GB HDD as a test :) -BP |
Let us know your results, BP :D
I haven't tried this yet :) -kwag |
@Kwag,
MojoPac vs Moka5 Mojopac ------- Mojopac approaches portable PC by using an existing Windows XP installation and booting your installed apps in the Mojopac virtual environment. This is like an expanded Sandboxie, where you can save to a protected file area (usb drive, ipod, external drive, etc). Mojopac only works with Windows XP for now, but other Windows OS's are in development (Windows 2000). Mojopac is not free and to beta test this costs $29.99 with 3 seats available at $14.99 ea. I worked with using an external USB 60GB HD and installed some of my most useful apps such as AVG anti-virus, Kerio, Firefox, MS Office 2000 Pro for starters. I works nicely, but I'm still trying more apps to see if it has troubles. Moka5 ----- It has the most OS's (ubuntu, linux, BSD, Windows, etc.) But I'm only interested in Windows for now. It reminds me of UBCD4W (Ulitimate Boot CD for Windows) where to create an iso you must have an install CD of Windows XP Home or Pro with product codes and during the creation install you apps to work with it. It ends up being a truely self contained protable PC. Depending on your storage device (usb flash drive of at least 4GB, ipod, etc) you only have the problem of your computer reconize it in a boot startup. It's trickly compiling apps with Moka5, but once done it appears to be the most flexible. Comments -------- I like Mojopac for it ease to create installed apps and use the Windows XP already installed on your computer. For folks who share the same computer this should work well with custom Mojopac PC's they just plugin and start in windows. If you have a PC at work and use Mojopac then taking your work home on a computer with Windows XP is a snap. If your a parent with kids and worry about the PC being infected or messed up when you need to use it, this could be a solution. -BP |
Thanks for the comments BP :)
I believe Moka5 uses VMWare player :?: If this is the case, then Mojo is better suited for running Windows apps, because there is no virtualization speed loss, which would be evident on Moka5. I installed Mojo trial on a USB stick, and it looks very good. I'll play a little more with it :) -kwag |
