I am really not sure what power goes into making kvcds, if it is just the processor, memory or what. I am thinking of buying a athlon xp 2000 barebone kit, and working from there. So what would be some goodies for encoding? Let me know i am open to any suggestions.

Plenty of memory (512MB or more) since you'll probably be using WinXP. Also try to get CAS2 memory so you can get everything out of it by tweaking the memory timings in BIOS.

My first suggestion

Encoding uses processing power mostly, not RAM, so a powerful CPU should be a priority. A dual 3.06 GHz P4 would be good!
