Linux: Help with 3D Support in Redhat Fedora

There are some RPM Files for Fedora and Nvidia:

But I don't know which one to install/in which order to install?

Any Idea?

What processor(s) are you running on your machine and I assume you are using the same kernel as listed in the rpm name (ie. you are using red hat fedora).

Based on your processor(s) select the packages, ie amd or i686, single processor or smp, etc. I'm not sure about the order dependency but rpm will complain if a dependency is not installed. That's the lazy mans way of figuring out package order.

Now I am using "yum" (a packet manager)

My Problem:

hmmm... sure... nvidia drivers are a substitute for the libGL mesa drivers :-/
It would be fine if he would overwrite those files... but I don't know how t oget him to do this

I have not used yum before but looking at a couple of web pages on it you should be able to do things like

# yum list "*libGL*"

this should list installed GL packages

and then you should be able to remove them with

# yum remove <package>

You would be better doing this outside of the windowed environment. ie. kill your X server and from command line do this and make sure you have the XFree packages handy incase the nvidia ones do not work out.

kewl... he would remove libgl without removing gnome and so on...
I now use "synaptic"
My problem now (also had this with yum):
He wants to install an smp kernel + driver

I only have on CPU... so -> I won't install an smp kernel

EDIT:
Problem solved...

I got everything installed, I changed my XF86Config (he created a XF*.nvidia with the right entries)
-> crash at start

Told me he couldn't load the Nvidia module (or sth like that... I'll recheck tomorrow)

Can you run Xsetup, XFconfig or whatever it is called to recreate you X config files?

Thats no problem... after about 30 tries on different Linux systems I can almost get every X-Config back to life (with the basic "nv" driver... no "nvidia" so far)
