my LCD for Video Work is a Nec Multisync Lcd1555v

Hi everyone...

I thought I would share my experence w/ my very first (and long time
waited for) LCD pc monitor !!



* Brand/Model: NEC multiSync LCD1555v 15"

PROS:
1, What can I say. It's fantastic !! I love it !!
2, it's luke warm.. if that.
3, only 19 watts, and draws NO heats like our old CRT ones do (HOT)
4, I was expecting this 15" to be pretty small at 1024x768, but to my
....surprise, it wasn't. It's actually quite nice to look at. And, its the
....recommended resolution setting.
5, Graphics Video quality ?? I know some of you would like to know or
....want to ask.. Well, it's perfect. because of 4 (above) your Video images
....come out perfect and smooth. No blocks on the .dot pixels like in prev.
....LCD type monitors of past. All edges and horizontals are smooth.. the
....video looks as good as a CRT monitor
6, power-on is instant. No waiting
7, settings/configs are as the same as in CRTs.
8, weight, is light.. about 8 pnds or less.
9, I reference it as a flat-screen, cause it is. It's flat. But, it may not tech.
....be a flat-screen. But, it is anyways, at 2" thinkness and no tubes.

CONS:
1, you have to get use to the slightely brighter look. ie, broundgrounds are
not as rich in strength when it comes to mostly covered bgrounds ie, blacks.
But, you get used to it, and it becomes 2nd nature. That's about the nature
of all these LCD type monitors. I would pressume that various other forms
of these type of flat-screen (plaza, LCD, TFT, passive) would produce in
similar fashion. Mind you, it's serious. But, you have to look at it a whole
new other way, that all. Once you've done that, you back in business, as
I am

I can't get enough use out of this monitor, even if I try. I always look
forward to getting home and using it. That's how happy I am I'm soo
happy

Played any games with it? The only reason I haven't gotten an LCD is that it has lower refresh rates which means ghosting during games. Has that happened to you (high action games)? Thanks for posting, I really want one, but I just can't be convinced (yet, anyway).

No, I haven't. I'm not into games. I pretty much stopped playing them
back in the Indiana Jones Crusades game.. and a little Lara Craft.

They've gotton a little to complex for me these days. I like'em small and
simple.. "Jill of the Jungle" and "Micro Man" (I think was his name) was
some good ones on 3 1/2" diskette - the easy days.

If you know of a simple game that YOU play, and is not complex enought
for me to try and test for ya, I'd be MORE than happy to D/L (small file)

I AM sooooo happy!!
I didn't shop around for mine. I was at Staples, and said, "I'm tired of
researching and whatnot" so, in short, I GOT. And, I'm sooo glad I did.

IMO, You don't know how much better it make be improve on my encodes.
But, thats just my opinion. All I can say is that the Video's I encode and
play w/ PDVD is awsome enough for me. Course, I perfer PDVD over
WDVD because WDVD does not play 16:9 properly, when I encode those.
PDVD does though !! And, that great thing about PDVD and 16:9 encodes
that I make is that I don't have to have it fullscreen to view 16:9, as I can
view it in a 16:9 window (it stretches PDVD's window AR 'wise perfectly)
where'as WDVD does not.. in fact, WDVD "shrinks" the video.
IMO, PDVD is the one to use if you are making 16:9 encodes, and want to
get as close to 16:9 actual viewing from them. Go w/ PDVD !!!
If you need settings, let me know. I'll get'em up and running for ya. I do
nothing but 16:9 encodes these days, and pretty much have it down to a
science (quality'wise too) I should be able to U/L a few sample 16:9 soon.
I finally got AVIsynth v2.52 working on my PC's. Just done first test w/
Kwag's MD script and I like how it's comming along, but I want to
see (compare) the 16:9 encodes I've done this weekend, to see if I can
lower the filesize but KEEP the quality (or close to it) but I need a good
guage (ie, sample from kwag or tipicle) that I can use to compare to.
..got carried away here..

Anyways.. me rambling on in excitement hehe..

Oh, forgot to mention price I got mine for $329, but there's also a $50
rebate that comes along w/ it. (final cost, $279)

I'm still :tongue2: over it !! hehe...

Really, it's not that bad. Remember what I said above.. that you just gotta
get over the slight offness of the darker colors. It's not a TUBE.. so the full
richness or clarity of ( how do I put in in words.. ) "darkness" is not the same
as a TUBE. Other than that, you get used to it, and enjoy it.

One other last thing I've mentioned too, was the slight brightness of the
display. Almost "whiteness" to it. But, again, you get used to it. And, if you
are familiar w/ working on a laptop, then you are already their.

So far, i still have no complaints about it. I left it on all day yesterday, cause
I forgot to turn it off, and it was still cool to the touch. When there is no
signal to it, it does an auto-shutoff (except for the green light)

I choose black, because when I do lots of "encoding" testings, I felt that a
white monitor would add to the glair and my judgment of clips (pretty anal)
but I usually save or do most of my final-tough juding for nightime testings..
so black was my choice.. only its hard to see the buttons for final adjustments
when the need arise (hadn't need to yet)

So, like I said, it just requires getting used to it, and from that moment on,
you'll be happy.

I picked one up.
I ended up going with a Samsung 191N, silver on black, 19 inch.
So far so good. Gained so much more room on my desk coming from
a 19'' crt.
Unbelievable. Even da wife was impressed with the monitor.
Got so many things open, tv, tmpgenc, browser, msn, etc,,they all fit nicely.
I dont really game either, per se. So refresh rates, etc..
weren't too much of an issue. Thx fo da tipz.

I see your's IS BIGGER than mine hehe..
I like that resolution.. 1280 x 1024 - - that kicks butt big-time.

Have you tried any WideScreen dvd movies on it yet ??
I work mostly in DV (TRV22) these days now, cause I really want to perfect the
quality of my home footage I shoot w/ my cam using 16:9 as my final
output source. And, my LCD really helps me get better results, imo.
