APT-GET in redhat 9 - slow?

I downloaded apt-get and did apt-get update. Then after that I did apt-get upgrade and it said it needed to upgrade 70 packages and download 134mb. It has been running for three hours and is not even half way done yet. It's also putting a heavy load on the cpu. The computer is a P4 1.6 ghz 384 ram. Is this normal for this to take so long?

Hi ren,

On my test machine, a Celeron 1.4Ghz running Knoppix 3.3, it didn't take that long to download and install all the updates :!:
Maybe it's a weirdo thing in Red Hat
