Hello Kwag:

When I send a PM, I receive this message:

Quote:
Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : /home/kvcdnet/public_html/forum/includes/emailer.php
This just happened after receiving a PM message........
Hope is not a serious malfunction.

Regards

Otto

Hi Otto,

Ignore the error message. The messages (PM's and posts) are being delivered.
There is a problem with our "wonderful" provider (ipowerweb.com), and it's related to E-Mail notifications.
But all messages are being posted correctly, and also the PM's.

Send a message via ICQ to incredible
Kwag,

As this is a phpBB board, maybe you can set in the administartor panel the email send options to "via smtp" or something like this as the php engine maybe gots a bug on the server.

Just a thought

As I assume you already did an exchange of that emailer.php file...
But maybe your provider just did some re-hirarchical ordering on his server that the emailer.php just have to be modded in some server-file-system refering lines or something else.

Hi Inc,

Yes, I already tried that yesterday, but it didn't work
At least I tried the SMTP server of kvcd.net and also my ADSL SMTP server. I guess they are configured for local host sending, and don't work from a remote host. As a matter of fact, I was searching for a "free" SMTP server somewhere, that I could use in the mean time, but I didn't find one.
And that's what I was going to continue doing today
I also have another way to do it, but it's my own hack, and I don't have too much time to do it. That is to modify the emailer.php file to write the notifications to a file, and then I "poll" via http that file (my own way, old bag of tricks ) and I read that file remotely and send the E-Mails locally from local ANY machine I want. This way I can "pull" the messages from the server, with a simple PHP file locking (to avoid writing when I'm polling the file). But it requires some mods to the emailer.php file, and I cant do it right now. Maybe I should do it anyway when I have some time, and then implement it. This way, I would never need the SMTP server from ANY provider, because I can get the messages via http, which EVERY provider must have on. Else, nobody could browse the site
(There are more ways to skin a cat )

The provider acknowledged the problem via E-Mail, and they are "supposedly" working on the problem

@ALL,

Ok. I just made a quick hack to the PHP code, simply to ignore SMTP errors, and report back as if the message was delivered.
No more errors on screen.
When the provider fixes the problem, you will automatically start receiving the notifications, and I will then reverse the quick hack ( Simply a comment on one line ) and error checks will be in effect again.
