HI!

Since yesterday Im a total Linux newbie and tried to install that "Captive" NTFS Driver ...

My intention: To try encodings on linux and to further treat them in Windows like DVDlab usage etc.

I did noticed the steps on that captive websapce and also copied the Win drivers into the captive lib folder ....

... ANd this little tiny Linux WON't still let me write on these NTFS partitions

I'm with you VM
I just wish sh0dan would port Avisynth to Linux so we could choose our OS and not having
to use one that provides a platform for the tools we cannot afford to loose...
But it seems that Avisynth's code is terrible to port or something...
I already tried a MandrakeMove distro some weeks ago because I suffered an attack on my firewall and it simply stoped working.
The guys "cleaned" my HD partitions and I didn't have my WinXP CD with me so I grabbed the first cd from the cover of a magazine.
Guess what? MandrakeMove
I "surfed" the web with it for more than 3 days and didn't even shut it down
I felt so good on it that I am currently downloading the 3rd CD from Mandrake 10.0.
Hope to have it finished by tomorrow night.
Maybe I'll try it on Sunday
Cheers

Yes, it would me nice to encode without avisynth. Actually, DIKO is multiplataform, except for a few system specific calls. (but I never tried to compile on linux). BeSweet and other command-line apps should work using wine, but avisynth is hard to work/replace by somethingelse. If we find mencoder optimal parameters and use internal filters, the KVCD/KDVD multiplataform way would be complete!

I still need to put back a linux distro in my machine... Kurumin is a very nice brazilian Distro (knoppix based), but it doesn't feature captive. I'll play with that later.

BTW, M$ is giving way Windows XP, Server 2003 and Server 2003 Enterprise (between other stuff) to the teachers and students of my university. For free! They're getting a bit desperate here.

Hi Vinicius,
That doesn't surprise me at all.
They know that in Brasil the Goverment ordered that at least 40% of the Server PCs property
of the state would have to run free operating systems like Linux.
So that is a market where they're going to have a real BAD time
I can't say the same for Portugal...
Cheers

I heared also about linuxDefender, a Knoppix (modyfied?) distribution which also should support NTFS writing.

I got also the latest SUSE here on a PC-Magazines CD ... and in a forum they said, it also can handle NTFS to write on it ....

Ill have a look at http://overclockix.octeams.com/
Thanks for the link!

EDIT: Just downloading it via Bittorrent

Yes, the new people on the government have some open-source tendencies. This year, for the first time, some government taxes software are available for linux. I am really hoping we use linux and openoffice near everywhere. M$ is making too much money out of my poor country, I don't think Windows is worth that much.

@incredible
Another distro that have captive is system Rescue CD. Actually I am remastering this Distro to include other freeware tools. But it's not knoppix based and has a differend purpose.

Resumee:

Overclockix: Captive integrated BUT It even wont show me the Configuartion Panel for ScreenRes. etc. and besides this it only gots US Keyboard design ----

Knoppix: No Way to get captive working

SuSE: FOr me the best DesktopDesign (clear and reduced like OSx) BUT no Ethernet support of my 8rda+ internal Ethernet device ... even when Nvidia Drivers are installed.

And also when running knoppix, several webpage URLS cant be called, like google.de ... but yahoo.de i.e. works.

Hi Inc,

I just installed captive in my Kurumin Linux (a knoppix based distro). No problems at all, and I am even using the brazilian portuguese DLLs. What was exactly your problem?

Did you put the drivers in the correct place? you have to copy ntfs.sys and ntoskrnl.exe to /var/lib/captive.
