Mencoder: Question about Average Bitrate...

I'm using overscan with Mencoder and this creates a smaller resolution
(i.e. 720x480 --> crop=672:448:24:16 overscan=2). When calculating
average biterate with Mencalc or Calcumatic, they don't take into account
overscan. With CQmatic this was done with sample testing. How do I
increase average bitrate when overscan is used

By shortening the length of the video or increasing the size of the disc

Bitrate is given in BIT PER SECOND, it is obtained by dividing the numbers of bits you have on the disc by the number of second (of video) you want to put on it.

What you want to put into these bits (full frame picture, lettebox, overscanned or not...) does not enter in the equation.

(what you determined in CQMatic by test sampling is not the AVG bitrate but the quality of the compression, ie the CQ).

Average Bitrate and Mencalc???
Mencalc calculates resizing and the little "Bitratecalculator" there in the thread calcs ... well the Bitrates ;-.) Dont mix them in their purpose
